How to I tell/convince my parents that I want to join the armed forces?

I'm 16 and have wanted to join the army since I was 5. I've thought about it always but never told my parents about it for the exact reason that they don't want me to join. I've hinted at it numerous times and they still dislike the idea of me joining. I realize I still have a few years to think about it but considering I've wanted to do this since I was young I don't think two years it going to change my mind. How to I tell my Mum and Dad that I want to join the canadian armed forces?

You just need to be honest, and tell them that it is the one thing in the world you want to do. They should support you, and trust you to make your own decisions. Get information, visit websites, career offices, as one of the reasons they probably don' want you to join is for your personal safety. If you show that you know a lot about the army, then they should be happy for you

My 16 yr old daughter wants to join the armed forces. You have to sit down and talk with your parents. You need to write down on paper the pros and cons, do some research and tell your parents about the advantages to joining the military.

If you want it get it. your parents will come around soon enough. my dad wasn't to fond of me joining the marines at first, but now he brags about it to everyone.

Suggest to them that you would look good in a uniform and that you feel the discipline would do you well. Then join things like the territorial army or the like before you finish school.

You might have to move past your parents. If you want this so bad you can taste it, if you see yourself living out your personal dreams and desires in the military, then you really have to do it no matter what. Only a similer person can relate or understand. Just express your true feelings about it and really show your all go for it. If your a good student I suggest going Officer. A lot of very important people in the civilain world come from the ranks of military officers. And considering all living costs are paid, officers make awesome money.

just tell them straight out why your reasons are for enlisting..its a big decision....it took my parents 7 months before they finally understood, not agreed with, but undersootd why i wanted to enlist.....if its your true calling, do it....good luck, maybe ill see you overseas in a few years

When you are of age, you won't have to have their permission. Besides, I'm sure they already suspect that's your goal in life.
