You don't state your age... if you are 18 years old or older then it is your choice, not theirs. You don't need your parents permission. Yes people die in the army..they also die in car accidents, airplane crashes, from falling down stairs, etc.

Crazy Dave
It is your choice! You only have to persuade yourself! Once you turn 18 you are a legal adult and can make your own decisions! It is nice to have their blessing but not a requirement! Once you hit 18 you can say I do what I want beeaaaches!

If you're currently 17 years of age you would need the permission of your parents to join any branch of the armed forces.

If you have already turned 18 the final choice is not theirs - - IT'S YOURS.

If your parents are not going to give their consent to join, the only option is to wait until you are 18 and you are able to join on your own.

Wait till you are 18 :) you will be able to then. You can still train and get yourself ready for basic!! Being in the military is one of the best things anyone can do. It can help you in so many ways.

depending what state you are in, you could be considered an adult. as such, you can join without your parents consent.

Once you turn 18 it is your decison not thiers. But, I would reccomend, telling them about the honor, duty, courage, dedication, and inner strength you will gain. No one, I repeat no one who stands in guard of freedom is thick. Yes, freedom isn't free and you could very well be killed. But you could also be killed in a school shooting at college, or a car accident? So that argument doesn't make sense. Once you turn 18 you can sign the paperwork and enlist without thier permission. However, make sure you look at all angles, it is not all fun and games. The military is a lifestyle, and it takes 24/7 commitment. Ask your recruiter to come and talk to your parents. Also, make sure you visit a recruiter from every branch and find the one that is right for you. Good luck, and I hope that you find what you are seeking.

Just do it when you turn 18, my husbands parents didn't want him to join the Air Force, now they say its the best decision he ever made! good luck!

dude military is the best thing that will ever happen to you. your parents dont know what the military can teach you like discepline, caring for others, making split second decisions.etc you should go for it if you want to doont let anyone stop you.

semper fidelis to all marines!!!

Im seventeen and in the Army, Its called paY's, youve proabably already talked to your recruiter about it. At least if you have talked to a recruiter. If your parents think...your "thick" as you say then... i would say ... get "thin" to prove it to them and if that doesnt work wait till your 18!!!....

Question to ask your parents, "Did you prepare through my childhood establishing "funds" for my college and do you currently have "funds" to financially support my continuing education?" If NO, THEY did not prepare for your "future", therefore, YOU must make that decision SINCE they were NOT supportive in their "responsibilities". They had 17 years to HELP! IF they can "financially" support YOU have an obligation to YOURSELF to continue and complete "college".

FACT, you can die anywhere in life and are more likely to die in a local auto accident than in the military. DO they drive a car? Tell them they can die! DO they continue driving, "conversation" is OVER!

YOU are currently "growing" into a "young adult". Simple "yes"/"no" answers with "you could die" comment needs to be proven. SCHEDULE a family meeting in the home with a set time. This is NOT to "argue" who is right or wrong but to establish reasons for their "opinions", and right now that is all they have, OPINIONS. Sit down with your parents with pen/paper and ask what their objections are and where they got the info. If nothing more than an opinion, from friends, TV, etc., THEY (your parents) DO NOT really understand.

Give them the statistic on "dying" in an auto. FACTS, majority of our military is still in the states and no plans for most to "mobilize". Military offers great education, leadership, steady income, advancement, teaches responsibility, how to "excell" in life. Insure them YOU will interview with other branches. Air Force and Navy are "far" from actual combat if in a "war" zone. FACT, out of Missouri, routine bombing missions, Stealth Bombers, leave, refuel in-air, carry out their missions in Iraq, return back to Missouri. This leaves their enlisted support in this country.

FACT, 70% of Americans, those that actually research before forming opinions, support our efforts in Iraq and with MORE positives, little negatives. Although, remaining percentage continue military support, just not our reasons to continue in Iraq.

Again, interview with ALL military branches, take their tests, see what employment you may have interest. At 18 YOU will make your own decisions, DO NOT argue with your parents no matter their opinion or tone of voice. They want to insure your safety and well being in life, but it is apparent they are "misinformed". As you gather their reasons about the military take this, do research, good or bad review YOUR findings. This will show YOU respect, as you should, their decisions and "value" them as well.

Hope this helps. If they refuse to sit down and talk, then they are happy with their same daily lives with NO ambition to advance, travel, and maybe DO NOT really care. Ask your parents if they have ever been to Europe, lived some or their dreams, have little or NO debt. If they tell you it is none of your business, then they are "just" making it in life. YOU MUST live your dreams, leave this same "boring" city/town, see the world, learn how to "financial" advance, etc.

Stay positive.

no offense or anything, but why would you go to the army, and pretty much fight to die? I wouldn't go even if it was the last choice.
