I've gone through Army Infantry OSUT and Coast Guard boot camp - and can give a little insight.
Emotionally, I found boot camp MUCH harder - we put a LOT of authority and responsibility on our junior people - so we put our recruits through a LOT of stress. Lots of yelling and screaming and "OMG YOU'RE LATE!!" drills - and it's all built into the system to weed out those folks that can't handle a lot of stress... and we do. If you have problems physically, we work with you to build you up... but if you have problems handle the stress, we send you home, because it takes WAY too long to change the basic psychology of a person.
Physically, we'll make you breathe hard and sweat - but it is survivable. |

Not an expert, but I believe it is very similar to the Navy, they share the same physical standards although the missions they train for are often different. It's real military training, not an easy path to wearing a US uniform. |

I've heard it's the second hardest boot camp, second to the marines. But I had a really good time in it. With the exception of the lack of sleep, you always ate well, stayed physically fit and were generally always doing something cool (fire fighting, shooting guns, swimming, learning interesting stuff) |

Swimming is a very small part. You have to jump off a 6 foot tall platform, swim about 100 meters, then tread water for about 5 minutes. If you can do that, you will be fine as far as swimming, if not, but you are willing to learn, they will work with you. If you are afraid of the water, you may not make it.

You better be a very very good swimmer. They do alot of high stress swimming exercises and various other water related rescue scenarios. If you are a good swimmer it shouldn't be too bad. |
