How would it be possible for MEPS to find history of drug use, if there were no criminal history?

My friend enlisted into the air force, and told them that he had never used illegal drugs (however, he has). So how would it be possible for them to find out if he was in fact telling the truth, if he has no criminal history of drug charges? and none of his friends have either.

Depending on what kind of clearance he is trying to get; they could go as far as asking his buddies in schools and jobs he was at. If a credible source says they saw him smoking pot (such as you here on Y!A if you gave his name) then they can use that against him and interrogate him further.

Well they can't. However if he was going after a job that requires a TS and they interview someone he knows him and provides them information about possible drug use then it could be negative.

It's impossible for the military to find out if you ever did drugs or not. The method used to conduct these investigations is not really efficient or effective. Drugs usually leave your system (urine) anywhere from 3 days to 45 days after use (depends on the drug) so as long as he/she hasn't done drugs in the last month or so, they'll be fine.

They won't... as long as he isn't doing drugs anymore, for obvious reasons.
