How would the USA deal with Iran if the sailors were American?

The incident would have been over before the news reached the political levels. US troops have an automatic right to self defense and US commanders are expected to protect their people. There is no delay in asking for permission.

Iran went after British troops because they knew they could get away with it.

US force are instructed not to be taken, they would have fired on the approaching Iranians and called for assistance.

The hell to be paid would have started when approached.

I expect we would bomb them around the two week point. We would give them time to release them and I bet Iran would. These kind of countries are flat out scared of President Bush. Witness Libya who turned away from terrorism once they saw what the US did to Iraq. But Iran knows Britain is passive; that is why they took their soldiers.

I would hope that we would have a 24 hour deadline. IF not returned in 24 hours Iran would be reduced to a smoking hole in the ground.

Lets just say, i wouldn't want to be in iran at the time.

Although, that is just my point of view, i am signing up for the British Army this month.

Give it time. They are actively trying to kidnap US soldiers in Iraq.

I can only hope that the State Department has a plan.

we would have reduced the iranian navy to ashes on the water then proceeded with the country hopefully turning them into glass. but, we have traitorous nancy and her cohorts having tea with the enemy, who knows what would have happened. maybe we would have sent them a polite note offering them more sailors?

They'd probably just bomb them.... and as Bush has set back the British Diplomacy by referring to the sailors as "hostages" maybe he should keep his big mouth shut and let the British government deal with this issue.... after all who gave the US the right to police this planet and does anyone real have any respect for the US anymore.

We certainly wouldn't be pandering to the Muslims and the U.N. We would make ultimatums, and if they were not followed, we would probably engineer either a rescue operation, or a military strike.

We wouldnt roll over and play dead,unlike the British,whom are using the UN,to negotiate.Good Luck there,but I can tell you,as the other British ships in the area were told not to interfere,the US would have had a sortie of F 18's there in a minute and they would have let them go,way before it became a hostage crisis

they were trespassing ,so they arrested them, you got a problem with some country protecting there territory,they have rights .believe it are not they really do.they are saying that this is there territory,and don't mess with us, have some respect.i don't like my Mex neighbours trespassing on my property and i have told them so.and they better not trespass again.same difference

Iran will dominate the fools who try and oppose them. A war with them means, heavy casualities, and 5 dollar a gallon gas, do you really want that?

If you have to get involved, use diplomacy.
Not threats.

You do not get people to do what you want by barking at them.
They are more apt at destroying what you most want to seek and have.

Diplomacy is the key.
Getting the International community to put pressure on Iran is the key.
