I'm 26 years old and thinking about joining the ARMY?

I am 26 years old and I am thinking about joining the military. I have a bachelor degree, but can not find a job in my field. Should I join the ARMY or another branch. I need to know if I should start doing the reserves or national guard. What is the difference. I really need help in deciding in what I should do.

hey i was 24 when i joined the navy. best decision of my life. i have a ba in urban planning and same deal, couldn't find a job. i wanted to go to grad school but didn't want to go in debt so i joined the navy for the gi bill. given i'll be 29 when i get out but hey, i'll have traveled the world and had a great time. so i say go for it, but go blue if you want a technologically advanced training, go green if you want to go kill some people.

Reserves and National Guard will be Part-Time duty so you might need a job when doing those to pass the time between training and such. Active-Duty is a full time job.

There are many many jobs you can do in the Army.... there are many combat jobs, but about 5 times as many non-combat support jobs.

You are qualified to apply for Army OCS to be an Officer (after you pass the training and such) or you quality to enlist as an E4 Specialist.

There's a lot of info out there that you'll need to research depending on your passions, dislikes, reasons, etc.

Well if you have a bachelor's, I'd first inquire about becoming an officer, thru OCS. Officers Candidate School is like an army crash course, teaching you all things army before you go to whatever branch school you are assigned to. The stie below will take you to the OCS homepage, It might list a "certificate error," but just blow by that and it will take you there. Good Luck-- and hurry. I think the age cap for new officers is 26 or 27.

The military can offer a lot in finding a connection to a successful career. especially for those with college degrees. The military offers a lot of career choices:military police, med-ed,health care,or take one of the training programs like becoming a xray tech. Learn Communications, computer tech, work in what Field you got your degree in. etc. Also as a college graduate, you can join as a officer,(1st lieutenant) not enlisted. As an officer you are offered more privileges than the enlisted. more pay, better housing, were ever your orders send you, most times you can bring and drive your own car. (most enlisted have to sell their cars, or leave them with family when they go abroad). Also your family can travel with you if you pass boot camp.the difference between regular Army and Reserve is you both go to boot camp, but regular army signs a contract for full time duty all year round. reserves serve weekends and 2-3 weeks a year.BUT remember this you only get Veterans Benefits if you have served Regular Army for more than 30 days AT A TIME. Sometimes a reservist doesn't take the opportunity to serve more than 30 days active duty. So they miss out on veterans benefits when they finish their contract.

What's your field of studies? What type of job are you looking for?

tell them you want a direct commission. try air force. all basic training is BS, but once out of basic, air force treats you like a human.

With the ecomony the way it is, many are turning to the military for employment. First, you need to research all branches to be sure to find the one that fulfills your needs. All branches are essentailly the same with respect to jobs and pay. A Dr in the Army is still a Dr if he/she is in the Navy, Air Force or Marines. A Transportation Spec. is still a Trans Spec wether they are in the Army, Navy, AF or Marines. Research duty locations, Social Programs (AF has best in my opinion and I am in the Army). Family Programs and general quality of life programs.

If you decide to become a career military, Officer vs Enlisted will get you the biggest retirement check. If you are unsure if you want full time or part time, start with the National Guard. You can then request to go Active after 1 year.

Good Luck...
