I'm In The Delayed Entry Program with the USMC I signed the contract that says I'm in for 8 yrs can I get out

I Decided that I wanted to join the Marines I joined the DEP Program I got Sworn In I signed the contract that says I'm in for 8 Years and Now I want to get out because I want to start a carreer in 6 months I'll be a personal Banker and will be going to school to major in Business that's the main reason to getting out, the other reasons are I'm getting married in 7 months, I don't want to go away and come back and have no life, Is there a chance that I can get out? I got pressured into going in, and now I'm in this mess, I heard that you can, But I signed the Contract what can I Do?

The eight years is normal EVERY BODY signed up for 8 years. Your choice how you complete the 8 years 4 active/4 inactive or six active/2 inactive.

Talk to your recuirter YES you can get out. As a former Marine I would rather you get out now than put fellow Marines in danger when you decide you don't want to do it anymore...

The process involves signing off as not being able to adapt to the military. If your recruiter does not want to play ball tell him you want to speak to the batallion commander.

Or go out and get arrested or smoke some weed and admit to it, the other answerer had it right about your 'poor moral' character at least we find out about it now rather after we spend a couple hundred thousand to train you up.

15 years from now when you are trying to pick up chicks from a bar it will be a different story-yeah baby I was in the USMC blah blah blah.

A man would rather die than not keep his word. Go and be the best for 8 years and when you get out nothing that you do in this life will compare to the man you will become.

That the kind of commitment your customers can expect from you at the bank? That the kind of commitment you are bringing to marriage? Grow a set and complete your commitment!

You signed a contract with the government- you're in for the long haul.

Just pull off your shirt and show them the yellow stripe down your back... or get a CAT scan to show that your head is empty...The Marine Corps want *real* men, not wishy washy pansies that can't make up their own minds or make decisions and stick to them.

You're not officially in until you take the second oath at MEPS.

You wasted the time and energy of many hard working people.

i hope you get out of your contract for the sake of the other Marines that will be exposed to you.

Your obligation is not 8 years full time service you moron, at least half of that can be inactive reserve. The likely hood of being recalled from inactive service is slim to none.

Get your sh!t together and step up to the plate.

First of all, its only 4 years active, and 4 years inactive, meaning you're a Marine for 4 years then you "get out", but for the next 4 years, you can be called up if the need ever arose to do so. The chances of that happening are slim to none. As far as not having a life, that is the most ridiculous thing I've heard. I have been in the Marines for almost 8 years, been married for 5 of them, and I enjoy almost everyday of my life. Will you deploy and leave your family for a few months, of course, but its nothing that thousands more before you haven't done. This banking career you talk about, what kind of money starting out will you be making. How will you pay for that major in business? How will you support a wife while starting this career and going to school? These are all things you need to consider before making a decision. The Marine Corps provides everything you need, benefits and a steady paycheck. Plus you get your college paid for. The things you experience in the Marines will make you an overall better person, and give you the drive and motivation to do just about anything when/if you get out. Compared to boot camp, everything else in life is a cake walk. So man up, grow a pair of nuts and stick with it, and you'll be surprised how much better you'll be for it in the end.

That being said, if you think about everything and still want to get out, you haven't taken the second oath of enlistment that you take at MEPS just before shipping to boot camp. Tell your recruiter that you don't want to join, and he may give you a hard time and be pissed because you just wasted about 75-100 hours of his time that could've been spent on someone else, but he can't force you into joining. Hope this helps.

If you could be "pressured " then your not Marine material . You signed , you deal with it and let them decide to throw you out if your not man enough to fulfill your commitment . ps I'd hate to sign a deal with your bank if your in charge. puke

Why did you sign the contract in the first place... You shouldof thought about it before you signed... Serve your country for 8 years and then get out.. You'll still have a life!

I would suggest you obtain a lawyer knowledgeable in military law. That recruiter was feeding you a big line of crap! You are only obligted for 6 years. which includes inactive reserve time.

yes, you can get out. Don't let anyone scare you into going in if you don't want to. I was in the Navy. From what I know, basically you won't receive any kind of discharge until after bootcamp (like an admin sep). In any event, you aren't even part of the marine corp until bootcamp, so just tell them you don't want to do it anymore. They can't force you, and they can't discharge you from something you aren't in. They actually sue you for specific performance, i.e. make you actually go to bootcamp. They way they look at it, if you don't want to go, might as well let you go away (even if they act like it's a big deal), since they'd rather just bring in the ones that actually want to go. It's just better that way. In any event, you might be sorry later in life that you didn't join (although 8 yrs is a long time...). The military is a good way to go, a nice stepping stone, and a good experience, no matter what some people say nowadays. I sometimes hated it (sometimes a lot), but I owe who I am to the Military, and I was only in for 2 years.

You was man enough to sign the contract to go serve for you county then you should be man enough to honor your contract. If the Marines signed a contract with you and they said that they where scared and could not do it I bet you would take legal action so think about it

First of all..

Here... http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/joiningup/a/dep.htm
About the DEPS...

Then.. http://usmilitary.about.com/od/joiningthemilitary/l/aaoath.htm

Now listen you scumbag, there is a way you can get out, but there will be some consequences and draw backs... But you agreed and swore to an oath which you took, breaking that oath would mean you're a dirty scumbag... Our country has no use for men who go back on their words, go through 8 years while going to college and then become a banker.

You wont go away and have no life, you'll be married and you'll be part of the Marines... That is what I call an exciting life...

Also like I said, you can get out but you might or will get a dishonorable discharge, and that looks really bad for you when you try and look for a job and etc.... You could even get your citizenship terminated, court martial, brought to civilian court, all sorts of bad things meant for scumbags, liars, traitors, betrayers, dirt bags.. etc..

Sounds like alot of these people aren't in the army, so they have no idea what it truly does to your life. Ask my husband about all the 'Dear John' letters you get when you're deployed. He got one on his deployment saying that she was sleeping with one of his friends. So yeah, where's the 'commitment' of these women? OK now that I have that outta my system, try http://girights.objector.org/. Since you haven't gone through training yet it shouldn't be that difficult, the more time and money the military puts into you the harder it is to get out. I don't know your situation, but right now I'm getting out of the army because of pregnancy, I'm presently in South Korea, but call the GI rights at 510-465-1472, and they'll go through a laundry list of ways out.
GOOD LUCK and Happy Life.

Get a lawyer Then break your foot.
EDIT
I guess you all missed the point in "Then break you foot"
Look I did 22 years in the Army 101st Airborne.
I know you have a career you want in personal banking.
A career in the military is a far better investment in your future.
even if it stops at 8 years.
If you break the contract it will be like breaking your own foot.
You Joined the Marines A brotherhood that will stick with you and cover your back for the rest of your life.
You'll be ten times the man you are now.
Fulfill the contract and make yourself proud.

Hey man, I can relate to what you're saying. I don't know how old this thread is, but I just got a release from the DEP a few days ago. If you haven't solved this problem yet you can go here: http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/joiningup/a/dep.htm and read what it says. Good luck, and don't let these military trolls tell you you're less of a man for wanting to make your own decisions rather than be ordered around.
