The only thing big is your weight! Ur not overly tall! Certainly as suggested here Id talk to professional people who can readily help with your weight + go see the recruiting office (after you've seen the weight expert).
However, you've got to help yourself first!
I'm sure you'll make it taking / following advice!
Nothing wrong with the military. A roof over your head, great friends, excellent medic treatment when u need it. Countless other things going for it
If u can't make active duty, umpteen great support units to serve in, learn a career, no problems standing on your feet in civvy street when U muster out!
Try the Airforce first! |

I seriously doubt you would be able to get through basic training being that big. Spend a year working out, getting in way better shape and getting your GED, then join. |

I'M JUST SAYIN.....

Go talk to a recruiter. It doesn't matter if you have a GED or graduated. They will help you get your GED and you are right you would learn a lot through them and get a bad *** education and be set |

Big guys can join, you just have to be within military height and weight requirements, which differ between branches.
At 6'0 and 270, I believe you would be considered overweight to join, but don't let that discourage you. Diet and exercise are the key to get in shape. Read the book Body for Life by Bill Philips, it'll help you tons.
Talk to a recruiter, many recruiters will do PT with you to get you to an acceptable weight. |

sure you can you can do anything you set your mind to. but if that's what you really want you have to discipline yourself and start getting in shape. i think that your asthma was probably and hopefully a thing of the past and it wont come back, but with regular exercise and healthy eating you can surely be a military person.. good luck. dint give up. |

well i dont about your criminal background but it seems like you could defiently join.you should talk to a local army recuiter to see what options you have and when you can get in.you will most likely take the asvab and that will tell you your jobs you can choose from and so on.but all in all yes you can. |

Go for it! They'll pay for your education depending on the time you serve if you chose to do so. You don't have to join the army or the marines either. You could always chose navy/coast guard. Air Force has stricter regulations. |

You will have a difficult time. You will have to lye about the asthma for sure. You sound too heavy too, but you can get a waiver as long as you lose the weight in your first six months. Being so big is a problem in the marines. Experience shows that big guys tend to be cowards when they find out that they do not have the advantage in a fire fight. Smaller guys will hold their ground because they have been the underdog before. Depnds on your psych test. |

Also realize that the government can wave anything. |

Being a veteran from the Army I can tell you that you will have some tough issues getting in because of your weight. When I was on active duty i weighed in at 190 lbs and I stood 5'11". I would always get flagged for the "tape test". You are definitely over the army's weight standard right now. However the best thing to do is to talk to a recruiter. they will know the current standards and could probably suggest the best course of action. Remember a recruiter wants you in the Army so they may tape you to find that with the right diet and exercise you could get through. In this case going to basic training may be the best thing for you because you will get the right diet and exercise. If you have problems from time to time with your Asthma you may want to say something. In this day and age you don't want to run out of breath while wearing a protective mask or while running to cover in a combat situation. It will be the goal of the doctors at the MEPS to ensure you are fit for duty. I wish you luck bud. |

It can be done. I lost 38 pounds before joining the Air Force Reserves. I mostly walked 5-7 miles a day, cut fat and sweets out of my diet. Don't get discouraged!. You just need to focus on what you set your mind to do. Exercise is the key. Basic training, even in the Air Force has fitness requirements that ar to be met. Start getting in shape now to deal with that requirement.
Set your goals high (AIM HIGH) and try to lose as much weight as you can. The Military, at some point, can waive some requirements.
Good Luck!!!!! |

If you seriously want to join, then go talk to a recruiter. They will help you get the ball rolling, and tell you if you are fit enough for basic combat training...
But according to this chart on the website below, you may need to lose some weight. Good Luck...

size doesnt matter.my friend is ALOT bigger than you and just retired after 20 years from the marines.I served 4 years in Navy...its if you can pass the bootcamp physical training and medical part..and if you dont have high school diploma you are limited to the menial jobs because you wont qualify for certain schools.but once you are in you can maneuver your way to a education and better job..while in military..and if you join..your best friend is there waiting for you..you just have not met him/her yet.
good luck..be strong, and belive in yourself..dont be timid,,dont be scared just be confident in yourself Ok,,you will be fine..use your size as strength and power bring your body and your mind will follow and educate it while serving..good luck and serve US well..and thanks! |

I think you mean "immensely."
Bad spelling aside, the Army will take just about anyone to be cannon fodder. Just get any promises your recruiter makes in writing.
I want to discourage you, as I think that joining the military right now, with the nation mired in two countries' civil wars, is a very foolish and dangerous idea. But if you think you have something to gain that you couldn't get otherwise, then talk to a recruiter, as they would have all the info regarding enlistment that you would need. Just talk it over with your parents, and whatever you do, don't talk to a recruiter alone. Army recruiters have been caught doing a LOT of illegal things trying to get kids like you to join.
