I was in the navy and loved it. Here is a link to find a navy ROTC college. It's a wonderful life. But why gunners mate? And think about it before you do it for someone else. If you do it for your dad it may not be the experience you think it will be. You have to do it for yourself and your country. If that makes your father proud, that's great. But I would imagine he'd be proud of you if you became a ditch digger. Just be the best at whatever you choose.

My brother is in the process of joining.
Everything that you will need is free, and you get a paycheck.
You should, i have nothing bad to say about the military. |

the navy is a good branh of the military. i got to a military high school and we are NJROTC (Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps) and ive learned alot of things from them. If you are considering joining a naval College i would suggest Annapolis. Its the only full naval college in the USA. but however you can join a college that has the ROTC program for the navy. i suggest you look into it. |

don't do it just to make your father proud. if you do it should be because you want to and to make your father proud. but i do admire that decision very much. |

You shouldn't be joining the military just to make your father proud. 10 to 1 he is already proud of you.
You should be joining because it is the right thing to do, in saying "Thank You America" for your freedom and liberty. By serving you are thanking and defending.
I served 12 years in the Army got out to become a Cop and am now retired. |

I don't think you should join the Navy because of your father. You should join the navy because you want to. |

heriticO is misinformed. You can't just go wherever you want and it's not all paid for. SOME of it will be paid, though, which is very helpful. With several family members that are (or have been) in the navy, I can tell you that it offers a wide variety of training and post-service career options. You can also have an opportunity to see the world. I see that another poster has recommended the air force; don't forget about naval aviation. There are some great opportunities there, as well. |

In the Navy, you get to travel alot, and most of the time these days, there isnt any HOT combat at sea, so the navy would be safer than the army or marines. |

Any branch of the Military has good and bad things with it. Of course your putting your life on the line but there is a small chance of dieing. I would suggest either the Air Force because of there top school in Colorado Springs which would defiantly make your father proud or the Marines because you get to have more benefits in the end. This is because it requires more work but really pays off. |

i am a navy correspondent and i think if you like waking up at 4 30 and do thosands of drills than sure but i mean there is a lot of benefits like scohlarships and friends you get to make a lot of friends so i mean its not that horrible set your mind to it it will be fun sorta of |

Honestly, joining the navy is a bad idea, unless you want to stay in the military your whole life, it puts you years behind everyone else and it will be alot harder getting into a prestegious college making it harder to do things later on. |

The only Naval College is the US Naval Academy in MD and it's really tough to get accepted there.
Gunner's Mate is an Enlisted Rate. If you graduated from the Naval Academy you would be an Officer and never be a GM. |

You get paid money and can get into any college free. I guess you could say you're fighting for your country but we're not really fighting for much. |
