Find answers to your legal question.

I'm permanent party and AWOL for 30 days where do I turned myself in & to whom?

I've heard that I need to turn myself to where I was permanently station. But I was wondering how do I go about in doing this? Do I tell the guard at the gate that I've been AWOL and from their they will do the rest? Or do I drive in, and go straight to thee MP station or turn myself in to Staff Duty? A warrant hasn't been put out for me yet. So, please anyone know how should I do this?

The first step to taking care of an AWOL situation is to turn yourself in, immediately, to the nearest military base. Go straight to the front gate, report yourself by name and how long you have been AWOL.

Upon turning yourself in, you'll be given an opportunity to explain, under oath, your case, your reason for going AWOL. IF you went AWOL for a medical reason, death of a family member, terminally ill family member, psychological reasons or to seek rehab treatment for substance abuse, bring paperwork related to that event with you.

Next you will be placed on "restriction" which is a nice word for being placed into a military detainee facility, the brig. Getting into any trouble while you're on restriction can make matters far worse for you and that includes things as simple as a uniform violation. In most cases, you'll be returned to your duty station to stand trial for going AWOL.

When you finally arive and are going on trial, you'll speak before your commanding officer and it's important for you to be honest, apologetic and professional. Keep up your military bearing and remain apologetic. Make the commanding officer understand that you understand the gravity of your situation and, that what you did was wrong. IN many cases, soldiers who went AWOL and have a good reason will be returned to duty with after serving a short sentence in restriction or having a pay cut equal to the amount you were paid during your AWOL days.

Consideration will be taken for those that were AWOL for substance abuse rehabilitation or for those who went AWOL for mental illness. Best of luck to you and, as the above poster mentioned, I'm glad I'm not you.

It doesn't matter where you turn yourself in at. They will just send you back to your original base of origin.

You really need to face the music and deal with this. The worst that is going to happen is a discharge. A naughty one. Other Than Honorable. In the Navy, you would likely get 30-45 days of restriction 1st, then they discharge you. But you have to face this. You can never live a normal life if you keep running. Its not as big a deal as it seems. Just a technicality.

Get it taken care of and move on with your life. Its not the end of the world. So what...you can't get a government job. If you don't get a job that requires a background check, they will never know you were even in the military. Hell, I have an honorable discharge and I was told to flaunt that at interviews. Guess what? They couldn't give a crap that I ever served. Grand. I was told I would have a leg up on everyone else because of my military service and its not true. In a few years, you will have moved on and it will all be behind you.

Face the music. Its not that big of a deal. You will be fine. In a few months, you will be a free civilian. But you need to deal with this now.

The US Army is not currently seeking out AWOL service members however, if you have any sense of duty you should turn yourself into any authority rather it be military or not. You can go the your local police where they can get in contact with the nearest military installation and you will be processed back into the rolls. You have been dropped from rolls due to your absence but you may still fulfill your contract with little problems. You will most likely be demoted and be put on extra duty and restriction for up to 45 days but it's better than running your whole life.

You could go to any base and turn yourself in to The MP/SP station. Give them all your info...

Call your unit and tell the 1SG or Commander that you intend on turning yourself in and turn yourself in to your unit as directed. If you tun yourself in somewhere else you will be transported back to your duty station, and they will most likely charge you for the transportation cost, and it can be a lengthy process. When I was in Fort Drum we had a deserter apprehended that had been gone like 4 years and he was apprehended in Florida. It took 2 weeks to be transported to Fort Drum and the civilian an law enforcement charged him for transportation and lodging the whole 2 weeks.

It is much simpler if you just turn yourself into your unit.
