I've been thinking about joining the military..which branch?

I'm in college right now..but i'm not motivated. not really trying my best in school..still live with my parents(i'm 21)....and I just really want to get out on my own and experience different things. I know for a fact that i want to see different parts of the world...asia and europe mostly. I understand that where ever they assign you that's where you go. But in you mind, which branch offers you the best opportunity to go overseas?

Victory Soldier
I was flunking out of UTEP when I joined the Army, but after a single winter rotation to CMTC Hohenfelds I never made anything but an A in a class -- for the next 16 years and 4 degrees. Muddy snow (or is it snowy mud) is a great way to put your life in perspective.

If you join the Army these days, you WILL go overseas at some point in your enlistment. There are large numbers of troops in Aisa (mostly Korea) and Europe (mostly Germany) and you can arrange for your first tour to be in either one of those. However -- those theaters are so mellow these days that the soldiers assigned to Korea and Germany are being deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. So your two years in Germany might be six months in country followed by a year in Iraq, followed by another six months in Germany.

The Navy, by definition always goes overseas. Just make sure you are in an MOS (they call them ratings) that is a shipboard speciality. You will see the world. And you will hit all the high points. briefly. But in between those times in port you will be stuck in a ship with limited shower facilities and shared bunks. Watch out if you are claustrophobic. OTOH, if you don't mind being cramped, you really do see the world.

The Air Force maintains more bases in unusual places than any other service. In the right MOS you could find yourself in all sorts of unusual places. However, I recommend you avoid it. The Air Force is the service voted "most likely to be like a real job". They wear their hair long, fraternize too much, address their officers by first name -- it isn't the place you want to be if you are looking for something to motivate you. An internship at IBM would do the same for your motivation level -- and it will pay better.

I strongly suggest you avoid the Marines. If you have any sense of humility, shame or compassion for your fellow (non-Marine) man you will not fit in. You have to want to drink their Kool-Aid for the Marine Corps to be a good fit for you. Since you don't know which branch you want, you obviously haven't drank it.

I suggest the Army (Hooah!) or the Navy. Both have their pluses and minuses. If you want to see Central Europe, Korea, the Mid-East and Central Asia, the Army is your game. If exotic beach locals are your thing, stick with the Navy.

Thanks for being willing to serve and I hope you have a great time. Remember, it is what you make it, so keep a good attitude and you will have a wonderful time.

Man, I know exactly how to feel. Personally, I'm going Army, but if want to see the world... aside from Baghdad or Kabul, then I'd probably go Navy. Beyond that, do some serious research into the military and everything that's going on before you toss yourself into this mess. That show on PBS, Carrier, about the Navy was pretty good, might wanna check that out on the side.

Join the Navy and See the world.

So what do you want to do? Look at all the services and find out the type of job you want to do. Then find out where you can stationed. This is important.

Hi friend,Here is my advice,The Navy 100% for you.I was in 4 years F-14 squadron.I saw most all of Europe and many more places. In the Navy when you go on cruise for 6 months you will port in many differant places and on whats called work-ups ect.In all other branch of the military you will be sent to one country and thats were you will be,no travel no new places ect.Not to talk down the Army,Marines,or Airforce, but for an adventureous person like you sound to be the Navy offers more as far as seeing many places!--Its a fact friend.Watch out for the silver tounge recruiters they will tell and promise you what you want to hear!Trust me Navy all the way I went everywhere and I never regret it.I wish you the best..

it's about equal w/ each branch. now you should be looking at which branch will give you the best job opportunities w/i and allows you to get better jobs when you come out. i would say air force. my best friend and her husband have both been stationed in england, as well as state-side. they have also gone to the middle east, asia, central europe, south america.

The easiest and best branches are the air force, you can be fat and lazy and get paid. The army , you pick up rank fast,
the navy but you'll be out on ship most of the time, or the MARINES they will work your *** off but you'll be proud to call yourself a MARINE and have people look up to you and call you a hero.OORAH!

Overseas? Navy or Marines Corps. Navy because that's what they do and Marine Corps because that's what they do and they're also small. The Commandant of The Marine Corps has stated that ALL Marines will do a tour in either Iraq or Afganistan.

Other than that, it all depends on what you want out of your service time. I did 4 years in The Marines and I hated and loved it at the same time, if that makes sense.

Army and Marrines can take you on a non stop flight to affganistan, iran, or iraq. Air force and army are big in germany and europe, Navy best to travel, select a field which has sea duty, I was on the USS Midway for 6 years saw 16 diff countries. If you want motivation go marrines they'll motivate you really quick. Army blah, Air Force lives the good life blah. Then you have the coast guard hahaha won't see foriengn countries but get to see lots of boat people. Good luck in your choice.

DONT! travel if you want to go places but, my brother made the same mistake, thought he had nuthin to lose, and right when he fell in love and wanted to get married, BAM!, they send him to iraq. military is just violence, i respect our soldiers definitaly, but, theres no point in dieing to do sumthin you could do on a happy vacation w/ family.

?
you know, you dont have to join the military and risk your life JUST BECAUSE you want to get out and experience different things. you can travel to these places. with friends or on your own.
