ok ive been wondering. if i have glasses can i go into the army? and could i become a sniper. and if i got contacts instead would that change anything? also i have asthma too. but its not bad. so im just wondering if this could stop me from going into the army.

If you have asthma and do not mention it when you enlist, you can be chaptered out of the Army for false enlistment. If you "Develop" asthma while in Basic Training, you will be chaptered. However, if its not a problem, meaning you can run, ruck, etc you may be allowed to continue training but it will be documented in your medical records. A profile for asthma will only keep you in the Army for 1 year after such time you will be discharged unless you can prove that you will not have an asthma attack. Glasses are not a big deal and yes you can go to Sniper School wearing glasses. Contacts are not worn in combat zones hence the push for PRK or Lasiks to correct your vision. |

the asthma will stop you, unless its not on your medical records anywhere then you could just say you developed it in BCT, a common occurance. they hand out inhalers like candy |

I think your asthma has to be controled before you go in, also your doctor has to clear you first.
The glasses part, whenever you go to meps they will do all kind of test and according to the result they pretty much tell you what u qualify for or not.
For the most part you don't get to pick and choose it all depends on your ASVAB scores and your physical condition. |

The Asthma is definitely a hindering factor, but it also depends on the level and severity. Though Glasses will not stop you from enlisting. You will not be able to wear your contacts through boot camp as you are issued military those thick glasses that are straight out of an old revenge of the nerds movie. If you get through all of that, and you make it to your duty station, you then can wear your own glasses as long as they are up to military standards, (No colors, sparkles, accessories etc.) |
