I am 17 years old, almost out of High School. I am thinking about joining the Military, but here is the thing.?

I am a duel citizen of BOSNIA[born there] and the UNITED STATES. I came to the States 9 years ago.

I for one, want to serve in the Bosnian Army because I have lost a lot of family in the Bosnian war. And I have a lot of pride in my home country. The Bosnian Army has men in Iraq and Afghanistan helping the US out, so it's not that bad.

But then again, I want to join the USMC. I want to be a Police Officer after, or maybe a Border Patrol agent.

What should I do?

You have to do what is right for you, and no one here can tell you what that is. Weigh the pro's and con's of both and go from there.

First you have to ask yourself this question: Hypothetically if the US and Bosnia went to war, for whatever reason, who would you be MOST loyal to? base your descion on that, I am prior USMC and had a Domincan SGT over me who told us he rather fight for the Domincan Republic, my response...WTF are ya doing here? Good luck to you in which ever you choose.
PS you can't go wrong with the Marines, Devil Dogs can and will kill anything. HOORAH!!!

No insult to Bosnia but dual citizenship can cause you a lot of problems. In many cases your loyalty is questioned. Look at former Congressman Rahn Emanuel and his dual Israeli US Citizenship. People say his loyalty is to Israel.

What you need to do is read up, study up on Bosnia. Then at age 18 make a choice. If you want to be in the Bosnia army go do it. Then after you serve your time, you come home and renounce your Bosnia citizenship. Then join the Marines. If you decide not to serve in the Bosnia army, renounce your citizenship and join the Marines.

But do NOT go into the US Marines with a dual citizenship. Your loyalty will be questioned and they will not put you in a position of trust, such as an embassy guard.

Just be aware that serving in the military of another nation could cost you your US citizenship. I'm not sure of the specifics, I don't think it's a law that gets applied very much, and probably only applies when it is a country the US is at war with, but you better be sure of it first.

if your not 100% for the US military then go back there and join the bosnia army. not saying it in a rude way but if you were serving with me and you told me this i would have a hard time trusting you. plus i don't think the government let you join

Join USMC first, then go in to the Bosnian Army.
