I dont know whether I want 33W, 21T or 94S I guess it would help if I knew where I would go to AIT. Also I have a wife and a 3 1/2 year old daughter, dont know sometimes if this is the right thing to do? I would apprecieate any advice or suggestions from someone who knows what its like.

I am currently at 33W school, and it is a really good school for after the army. However, if you want to get this MOS, you're going to need to up your asvab score quite a bit.....I don't know what 21T or 94S is, though 21T sounds like another computer job......I've been MI for my 2 plus years, and that is the way to go. 98Y (Intelligence Collecter) is the best if you can get it. |

I'm X Army (honorably discharged) Navy is good if you're a "wuss" and can't handle the physical aspect of training.
What ever mos you do decide on, don't choose it because of location, ca$h incentives, or any reason other than it being something you can use when you return to civilian life.
At your age i would give this some intense thought.
Weigh out the +'s & the -'s
Good luck |

Dont worry about where you are going for AIT - that's the least of your worries.
I would consider which MOS will provide you with the best opportunities when you leave the service and what will be marketable in the future. Also look a how quick it is to get promoted in each MOS, as you don't want to get stuck in a dead end with near impossible chance for promotion.
To tell you the truth, I've been quite a few years, so I don't readily recall the titles for the MOS you asked about, but keep out of vehicle mechanic, cook, transportation.
Also keep out of anything that is purely military related because that too won't translate to a civilian job for example my hubby was a tanker and couldn't get a job doing that once he retired.
I was an MP and went into law enforcement.

seriously if those are your choices take 33w, it's military intelligence. the military is a good option. there are tons of jobs you can choose from. those 3 are just the ones the army thinks you will excell at. some have less of a deployability factor than others. if you talk with a recruiter they can tell you where your ait will be at. well good luck man. |

Well 21T MOS School is 18 weeks at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. 33W is 43 weeks at Fort Huachuca, Arizona and Im really not sure where 94S School is but those are some really important career fields. It's needless to say that if you have kids it will be harder because more likely than not you will see a deployment. If you go to 33W you will be able to take your family with you because it's such a long school. Hope this helps |

You should sit down with your hometown Recruiter and let them know your interests.
The Recruiter will tell you where the AIT location is.
Only you know if it's the "right thing to do."
And definitely check what benefits are available and when for people that are married. |

My thoughts:
1. You can choose a mos but that doesn't mean they will give you what you want. It depends on your asvab scores and the needs of the army. Right now the army needs bodies for Iraq.
2. Some people feel they have to join the military because of dire need. (The only 'have to' thing I can think of is because one is starving and watching the kids starve. Even then the pay is not all that great. Some military people have to use food stamps to get by).
3. Bonus money to join looks good but can be misleading. My son has to fight for funds each and every semester even though he was promised these funds would be available. Bonus money is not paid up front but only after one has been in the service 'x' amount of months or years and is taxed so the full amount is never realized. College is often interrupted by training or deployment.
4. Your will miss out on huge chunks of your daughter's life. She will miss you. Your wife will miss you. You will miss your wife.
5. Recruiters have an agenda. They have quotas to meet. Take anything they say with a BIG grain of salt.
6. There are other ways to serve your country.
My credentials? I'm the wife of a retired navy man and the mother of an army reservist. |

Military Intelligence is hard to get into & requires a really high score to be even considered. In my son's Officers School class, 23 signed up for MI & only 3 female got the only spots - no male MIs out of class. This was over 2 enlisted men coming from MI & a Harvard graduate Attorney, my son scored 94 on ASVAB & he did not get MI either.
Good luck but have a backup plan. My son loves the Army life. |

Hooah!!!!!!! :P
Thank you for your willingness to serve. My hubby's in the army, and we really enjoy it. It's tough (you've got to be awful strong before you can become army strong) but it's worthwhile.
If you're willing to go Military Intelligence (33W), I'd go that route. I wanted my husband to (he went into signal--MOS 25B). I know soldiers who are MI that are attatched to a deployed unit, but never leave base for deployments. Wouldn't that be a perk??
I would warn against 21T. It sounds like a deployment friendly position, and with your wife and child, you would want to be home as much as possible. It's best for your family life. So I wouldn't go with that one.
I would also avoid 94S. The listing I found for that was Patriot Systems repair?? Anything that says repair is typically deployment friendly as well.
That being said, I'd go for 33W. Besides, I think Military intelligence would be a fun field to go into. If I was enlisting, that's where I'd be headed.
I understand what you mean about not knowing if this is the right thing to do. We're actually being medboarded (medically discharged) now because of something that happened to David in training. We're glad, because we got out before he was ever deployed.
Best of luck to you and your family. Let your wife know about www.cinchouse.com, www.myarmylifetoo.com, and other helpful websites. CincHouse is a great website for military wives & girlfriends. She'll be able to make friends and get help from women who are more experienced. It was a lifesaver for me.
Thank you for your willingness to serve. It will be hard, but life is hard. If you ever need more advice, look for me on here, send me an email, whatever. I'd be happy to help. =D Best of luck to you!
Also, don't request Germany on your wish list for posts. All my friends that have gone there have been deployed within a year. |

If you're in for the long run and not for just a few years, then you need to look up which one has the lowest promotion points for promoting to E5 and E6. |

Before some army recruiter sweet talks you into anything, you need to know some hard cold facts. It does NOT matter what you sign up for in the way of an MOS. They put you where they want you.The recruiter don't usually tell you this beforehand, but the needs of the military comes first. If you are a trained quartermaster after AIT, and they need grunts on the front line, guess what your new MOS is, INFANTRYMAN. |

You better keep your behind at home with your wife and family, do you realize where you will go , right to Iraq. Come home in a casket or maimed so bad that you are unable to move your body. You better think about it because Bush don't gave a damn what happens to you he just says, "Ah, just another brave solider"
The war that was based on lies and only to have the pleasure of Bush saying ," Hey, dad I got Saddam for you, Ha. Ha" You think one man is worth all these troops in casket's and maimed belong recognition is worth it, for just on man dear old dad, do you really.? |
