I have gotten into a college that i like, but i want to go places. The college i will be attending is a 45 min. drive from home, but i will be living in the city of that college. I will enjoy partying and freedom, but it is also a financial strain on my family. I am considering the air force because I've always felt i was meant to do more. Not only does Air Force give me benefits, but i will be independent. I no longer want my parents to worry about me, or how they will pay for my college. Point is, I am considering the air force, but are girls cut out for it? Am I in over my head? I fear not being able to get through bootcamp, but at the same time , I fear that I might regret not going to the Air Force. Any opinions on my situation , or girls in the air force is appreciated.

I'd say go into the Air Force for the 4 year stint. When you go into basic training, make sure you sign up for the GI Bill. After your 4 year stint, get out and the GI Bill will pay for your college education. Not only will the Air Force be a good experience, you will get to travel. Rarely do you see the Air Force out on the front lines too...depending on your job. I am a woman, and had no problem with the basic training...much easier that the other services from what I understand.
I was in for almost 10 years, went in when I was 19, and enjoyed every minute of it! Came out a different, better, stronger woman. Good luck! |

I personally would choose college, but that is just my preference. I believe we women can do anything we put our minds to. So, whatever choice you make, you will have a good chance of doing well. Take the choice of what you really want. If you choose college, you may need to discuss it with your parents. You could get a part time job to help with the finance. If you choose the air force, choose it because you want to do that. Never take on something just as a convenience for others, as if you don't really want it, you will most certainly regret it later. I am sure your parents will help you in anyway they can with whatever you choose. |

Ok, here is the real solution. You join the air force ROTC program. they will pay for your college and train you. When you graduate college, you will join the air force and be an officer immediately. if you join before college, you have to start at the bottom. If your college doesn't offer this, you should switch to one that does.

Airforce is the best option of three evils.
U should meet more airforce people before u decide. Im sure u know a lot of college people but military is uh WAY different.
Remember your MAIN function is to kill other people. Thats what the armed forces is. and dont get me wrong i support the occasional killing of people its just not for me. |

hey I just finished going through the exact same thing!...I ended up deciding to go to college, get financial aid/student loans, and then go to the military...I dont know how much you know about the military...but if you get loans from school and then join the military uncle sam will pay off your loans as long as you stay in the service for at least 8 years...oh and did i mention that you dont have to go to boot camp if you do it this way!...after you get out of college uncle sam will send you to an officer academy and I'm pretty sure it's 6 weeks, but anyway they just teach you the basics of the military...but good luck with everything!!...oh yeah and choose a major that has a career in the military...like my major is legal studies, so when i join the military i'll be doing something that involves law...o and one more thing...as long as you know for sure that you are going to the military when you're done with school, go ahead and get the biggest amount of money as you want, since unclue sam will pay it back lol..and then when your school sends you your financial check you will have money as long as you budget right |

Have you tried the applying to the Air Force Academy? It is an outstanding college, and you will still be in the Air Force.
In retrospect, I wish that I had gotten a degree before joining the army, and I imagine my reasons would still apply to the air force. I would highly suggest at least getting your associates degree first, and while in college, joining the ROTC program, then joining, though if you complete your four-year degree, you will help your career in the Air Force tremendously. |

yes, girls are cut out for the air force. out weigh your pros and cons. and keep in mind that the military will pay for your college, there is a war going on and the air force has the shortest basic training out of all the branches. |

Why dont you think of some pro's and con's for both, whatever YOU want to do, go for it! Personally, I would take a gap year to go to the airforce, and then go to college. |

You seem to already know that the Air Force is your better choice. Join and let them pay for your education and you will have a secure job and future. ENLIST and you will still be able to have freedom and enjoy your life and get paid while you're learning and get a paid 30 day vacation. You can never be fired from the military and will travel extensively. Yes I am a military veteran and I've traveled overseas and stateside. |

It depends on what you want. If you want to see the world now, then the Air Force would be great for you. However, if you want to be most prepared for the future, college would be a better choice. But only if you know you can study and make it all the way through. |

If you want to do really interesting things like learning how to fly a jetplane, going to interesting places, etc., the Air Force would be an awesome decision. Personally, I would go to the air force because I have always LOVED going on airplanes and watching the ground from like 38 000 feet in the air. As for boot camp, just stay fit and do your best, I'm sure anyone who does that can make it. |

I know a lot of people who have gone a lot of great places without ever being in the military.
The folks I know who traveled as members of the armed services were shot at, and some of them were wounded.
I'd pick college.
And yes, your folks will worry about you a lot more if you are in Iraq than they will if you're at college. |

Just because your a girl does not mean you are not cut out for the air force i know of a lot of girls in the air force they did have to train hard but of its what you want to do do it dont jeperdise your future for anything less than what you want. When i finished i couldnt get into college to do what i really wanted so i made other ways around it and kept persivering untill i did get into that course and now im graduated and working professionally!! |

Air Force will pay for your college and you will get to travel. I think it would be a good choice for you. |

Go to college, then after you've done that, join the Air Force. You won't always be in the Air Force forever, so it would be good to have some qualifications |

OK well I honestly would pick college first THEN if you still want to join up join the military after you graduate. You could put in for officer candidate school and join as an officer instead of an enlisted.
Girls can and do make it through boot camp ALL the time. BUT there are also girls who can't and don't make it. Only you know your physical strength and your abilities. But one thing is if you do college first you can work on your strength if it is not what you think will get you through boot camp.
Now here is the deal. While you are in the military yes you get tuition assistance and you are eligible for the GI bill. But if you touch the gi bill before you get out if you don't use it all while you are in you lose it. And if you go in as an enlisted you can not be assured of any set schedule (depending on your job). Making time for college unless online, is something a lot of new airmen have problems with. So yes you will get help with money issues for college you can't be assured of time frame for graduating. It is not impossible and people do it, but it can be hard.
So anyways, my suggestion is do college first then join. At the very least give college a try first. The air force will always be there. |

WOW! My opinion join the MARINES. I am a Marine and I am apart of the worlds greatest organization. The Marines gives you a sense of belonging and much more. I say that only because I know this first hand. We really do take care of our own no matter what. I can't say that about the Air Force or any of the rest. Because I simply don't know. Trust me you CAN'T go wrong with the Marines . I would strongly suggest you go to college 1st so you can come in as an officer. Yes! Yes! I know you can join a branch then go to college. of coarse you can, but once you join your job is your priority period. Please don't let anyone out there fool you by saying you will be afforded the time to attend school no matter what. The truth is if your senior approves it one and two if it will not interfere with the MISSON. Hit me back if you got any more questions. -CO |

I real enjoyed my time in the Air Force, but the freedom is limited, through basic and tech school, your days are pretty well planned out, If you have the drive and desire, you can make it through boot camp. It is a tough decision only you can make, because it is a real commitment.
You can also get a college degree and become an officer, very good pay and benefits. Plus the millitary has a good retirement, but most companies are getting away from retirements. |

...the Military will be one of the greatest decisions you'll ever make... you might even make a life's work out of it... it will always be a plus on a resume and an honorable military discharge will bring you benefits for the rest of your life... The A.F. boot camp is in San Antonio, TX...Lackland AFB... a great City... you'll have a great time learning and growing... you'll do just fine... |

If you go Air Force, or any military, you will have alot more oppurtunities for college while you are in, so you can do both. My husband is Army, and a Cav Scout, so I don't see any girls around, but I think they are every bit as capable. You just have to be determined, and boot camp is for a very short period, then its over and done, and you have a career you can be proud, if you stick with it you will be able to retire with full benefits at 43, and can get a good college education paid for. I say go Air Force. |

Unless they offer you scholarships like an ROTC program for joining the Air Force so that you can go to college and be at the Air Force the same time, I would probably look for grants and loans to consider college first. If you get your Bachelors first and join after you graduate then you become an automate officer. Just remember that if you choose college first try your best to refrain from partying until after midterms and finals so that you succeed in your classes. |

choose trade school. google occupational outlook handbook and select a high paying job. get the loans/grants, and earn 60K or 70K, pay off your loan in a year or two, and move around for a while if you want to see things. The military will choose everything for you and destroy your independence. People who claim it improves them are silly and weak minded dependents. We are in 4 undeclared wars right now, none were approved by congress. This is a great country and it's being destroyed by the military used as a tool for empire expansion. DO NOT JOIN THE MILITARY! BE INDEPENDENT! CHOOSE CAPITALISM NOT CRONY FASCISM! |
