I am almost 18, Black, and want to join the Marines. I am 89 pounds. Is that a problem?

I'm going to assume you mean American Marines, and not the Royal Marines.
So, how tall are you? I think that the _minimum weight_ is 90 lbs, if you're 4'10" so if you're 4'10" go have a double quarter pounder before you go to the MEPS station. So yeah, you're going to have to go gain some weight.

The only problem would be your pack may weigh more than you. But if you're strong & capable, you shouldn't have a problem. You should talk to a Marine recruiter, they would be the most-able to answer any concerns you might have

It may be, there are minimum weight requirements, It depends on how tall you are.

if you are in good shape and you mind is strong there will be no problem but you have to understand that the aquipment that you have to carry is almost 50 pounds heavy but if you have the hearth go for it... Good luck

For a female, probably not.

You might want to start working out and building some muscle though - it'll make it a lot easier when you get there if you are in good shape.

Otherwise boot camp will be brutal.

Yes, that is a weight problem. But don't worry, you can enter the delay entry program right away before joining for learning about the nutrition. Or you may able to join it right now and be giving what you eat.

I think it's great that you want to serve your country. Why don't you inquire first? I'm sure they have a training center or something near your place. Better to hear it from them than from us. But in my opinion, you're going to have to gain some weight (as in muscle mass) first.

No I believe there is a weight restriction, bot a min and a max but it depends on your height. If you were 5'10 and 89 lbs you cannot join, I think the minimum is like 110 or something but it depends on height. Over and above that youa re going to have to be carrying upwards of 80lbs and you can comfortably carry I think likea third of your wieght for something so if you weighed 170 thats no problem but 89lbs thats almost 98% of your entire body mass!

I don't see any problem except the Marines part.
Why? Do you WANT to put in a few years of combat training? What kind of job do you think you would qualify for after you get out?
Air Force. Same pay, carpet, no tents, no foxholes, physical training is easier than high schools PE, most jobs...you weekends are yours, no extra training.

Your age is almost appropriate, your race doesn't matter. As for your weight i would have to guess you are short in stature. I was 5'10 and weighed about 125 when i joined the Navy. As long as you are healthy and fit that should be all that matters. But check with your local recruiter as to the latest weight/height standards. Good luck to you in the military.

think they have standard weights and some medical conditions that will keep you out--not sure how much you have to weigh but know if you weigh too much it's a big problem.
