Well, yes you still have to register. You don't have to do anything unless the draft is reactivated and you get selected for service. At that time then you would file paperwork as a 'concientious objector' to get exempted. But you do have to have proof (affidavits or such) that you are an active member of a faith that disavows military activities. I don't know if they scrutinize it with as much vigor as they do someone who is already in trying to get out. There are a lot who wanted out merely because they were opposed to this war in particular and that has not flown with the government. It is mostly those who renounce all violence. But there have been men, draftees, during the World Wars and VietNam, who were concientious objectors, they refused to carry a weapon, but they served by not carrying a weapon and working in the medical fields or chaplain's assitance. |

You register with the Selective Service. There is no draft, and there is not a current demand that would cause a draft. Only Democrats are talking about reinstating the draft.
If you don't register, you lose many benefits you may need, such as government grants and student loans for college. |

Registering for the draft does not declare your stance or opinion on war or not, but it is the law of the land for now.
Not registering may give you some trouble down the road when your federal taxes are cross referenced with social security and draft records. |

If you sign up, it dosen't mean you will go to war. We would have to be in World War 3 if they needed you. |

This is not a case of whether you oppose the war or not! This is a law! You must register to receive benefits from the feds such as financial aid for additional schooling/college. It is a very simple process. go down to the local post office and do it! Remember this,it is OK to oppose the war , BUT IT IS IMPORTANT YOU SUPPORT OUR TROOPS ... |

First, it's the law so you register. If you are against the war than simply don't join the Military. There is no draft nor are there plans to execute one, and we in the Military ( I am former and a Iraqi Freedom vet) don't want you in anyway, send us the pride filled and those with a sense of duty. |

Sign as a Conscientious Objector. Many jobs in medical and administrative fields that you can do. Serve your country. The one that died to give you the freedoms that you're now presenting on Yahoo! |

Register for Selective service. It's the law.
Don't worry, there will never be a draft in the near future. The military is meeting it's recruiting goals. |

At this time, there is no draft. Hopefully, you will never have to debate this conflict you have between religion and war.
Some people, after having talked with military chaplains overcome this conflict and do serve.
Alvin York was just such a man. He was a conscientious objector during WW I . However, after discussing this matter with a preacher man, Alvin was able to sort out his concerns over killing and duty to country. Alvin York went on to become the most decorated dough boy of WW I . |

Registering has nothing to do with your opinion on war, this one or any other.
There's not even serious discussion regarding a draft, and there won't be. Not for this war or any other. We'd have to be rebuilding civilization before there would be cause for a draft. |

Register anyways its illegal to not register regardless of your beliefs. Dont be a draft dodger and if you must be one, be a conscious objector your will receive the same amount of respect regardless which will most likely be none. |

Go to your preacher and to several elders of your church and get letters stating that you are active in the church and have a proven track record as a contentious objector to military service and register as a CO. You are still registered as per law but the military would take your status as CO into account if the draft was ever reinstated. Likely hood of that approaches zero. |

First of all, registering for selective service is something you MUST do by law. As of right now, U.S. military service is strictly volunteer. I'm active-duty U.S. Air Force, and I have been for 14 years. To quote a famous general, "I love combat, but I can't stand war."
To be honest, I agree with that statement. I don't mind putting on a chem suit or firing a weapon to keep my qualifications up, but it carries a different connotation when you're in harm's way defending others you may never have the opportunity to meet. But that's okay, I serve because I love God, my family, this country, the glorious state of TEXAS, and I would even lay down my life to protect others who think like you do.
Don't worry, my friend you can rest easy at night because we've got volunteer Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen-HOOAH and Marines stationed around the globe to make sure you have freedom of speech and rest soundly at night.

This is a sticky subject, especially when it concerns a kid so I will tell it to you straight.
You do not have to join the military if you don't want to, and i doubt very highly that a draft is coming. But the military is a great place to get an education and a head start on life. The things you learn and the experiences you have will stay with you for a life time. You do not have to be a "Grunt" or a "Wrench Monkey". You can get into Science, Engineering, Technology, Medical, or perhaps you would like to fly an aircraft or drive a heavy equipment. Either way there are many areas of the Military you can get into that do not require fire arms.

well yes you have to register and most likely there won't be a draft so no worries there but if you can prove that your religion is totally iagainst it and it's not just you then they can't make you go over seas or anything |

dont register, simple as that.
The US government does not currently enforce registration. In theory you could be held criminally liable for not registering, however no person has been prosecuted for not registering at least since the 1980s. |

register. there is no draft currently that requires manditory service. but registering is the law. |

Well to be a conscientious objector you have to oppose ALL war and violence. Just opposing one war or this war won't cut it. But don't worry. The odds of us having a draft are very very low. |

Right now you need not worry about it because there is no draft, but if I were you, I would start documenting your objection to the war, any war. It will just be a matter of time now before the draft systems is reinstated. Certainly, do not wait until then to start your objection to all wars. |

Just register, we do not have a draft and, although the Democrats would like to create one, it is unlikely we will ever go back to it. (The military doi not want unqualified people in the service) Therefor the second part of your question is moot. If you don't sign up they will not come after you but they will bl;ock you from getting any Federal financial aid to attend college and that will probably lead to most colleges and universities refusal to give you aid as well. |

Just register, and if drafted, dont go. Move to Canada or Mexico.
Be declared mentally ill by a psychiatrist - that always nulls your elegibility for service.
Sign up for the Army/whatever, get high as a kite before taking your MEPS drug test, and you will get RE-3ed or 4ed, nulling your chances of entering the service. |
