I don't know who wrote "False" but apparently they've never served a day in the military... Here's the straight story...
You have individual stalls in the latrine, you're not "sitting next to" anyone. But there are gang showers, just like a sports locker room. And you'll be showering with all of your squad members.
If you're this bashful, how are you going to handle military life? You know the first thing they break you of? Being an individual, which you're being right now. You are part of a team in the service. You depend on the soldier next to you, and he on you. You sleep in the same tents, work together, eat together, and eventually fight together in combat.
So if you're prissy, the military isn't for you. Quit being a kid and be a man. No one is looking at you, they could care less. Most of them are married, or have girlfriends. The last thing they want to do is look at you naked.
Deal with it, or don't enlist. |

When your platoon is given 2 minutes for 80 guys to shower under 10 shower heads, nobody's real concerned with the nudity issue... stalls for big business... urinals are exposed.. just like everywhere else. |

Urinals are exposed, just like any public restroom, toilets are enclosed. Showers are just like gym class in high school, open. |

I was in the Army, and in basic the females had enclosed stalls in the latrine, and we had 8 shower stalls, but they didn't have doors or curtains on them. After a long day of drilling, running and do whatever you don't care, cause you are dog-azz tired. As for AIT we had open showers, like 10 shower heads for 60 females. You get in lather up and then get back in and rinse off, that is all you have time for. No one was checking anyone else out. Seriously you don't have time.
btw....I did Basic and AIT at Ft. Jackson, S.C. |

on a ship in the navy that was true in the past. it has probably changed recently.
most other bathrooms are enclosed, but have fun walking around in the shower line with all the other dudes. |

i don't know but a recruiter can tell you for sure
but i would think they would be BC when you are in a war you would have to wash where you can and go to the bathroom where you can so i would imagine that they would do that. |

out in the woods or in the field,

you only have like 15 seconds to shower.im joining the military and im not worried about it. |

False, but also True. Only in the movies and the 60-70's era. Some of the showers may be, but rarely will you use those. You will more than likely live in a small bay (like a studio apartment, which will have opened but divided showers) or 1 or 2 man rooms (like a hotel room). Military life is not bad, but you will spend so much time in the hot sun you will get over any shyness over time. It is not gay, you just get over it.
Good luck to you and never drop the soap. No matter what everyone will laugh at you and never let you live it down. |

Enjoy your life and don't join man! I'm almost done with my waste of time enlistment. Job is already lined up and i can't wait to be free!!! |

Probably should reconsider your desire to enlist. Sounds like you will miss your Mommy too much. To all those who say this isn't true- It might be true based on what branch, time of year, basic Training site you wind up in. It is still possible.
That is really short sighted and wimpy on your part. How will you react in a Chemical Containment Facility when you have to get naked with women while decontaminating???? OR in a Field Shower in the Desert.
Puss!
