If you're serious, then start running ... a lot! Medium pace, lots of miles. Press ups, sit ups and more running.

Run, run, run. Then do sit-ups, pull-ups, and push-ups. If you are out of shape, start slow and work your way up. Always stretch for approx 10-15 minutes prior to working out. Contact your local recruiter and they will definately know.

If you can afford the gym then go to one. Use the treadmill, x-trainer and/or rower. Plus use the freeweights (check the net for exercises).

If you can't then just measure out a distance in your car or your parents. 1.5 mile in 10:30 is the basic army standard. Just practise that at least 4 times a day and push yourself a little bit further every time. Or you could go for longer runs at a slower pace, either way you will build up your stamina in no time.

Do as many push ups, tricep dips, squats etc. as you can and just build on that.

If you wanna do a sport try boxing it's a great cardio sport run do push ups sit ups sprints pull ups flutterkicks 30-60's and 60-120's are really good and don't give up.

50 push-ups in 2 minutes
50 sit-ups in 2 minutes

2 mile run in 12 - 14 minutes.

Go to the Gym for weight training and cardio training too!

All the answers given so far give good advice, except for that stupid one that you should ignore! Stamina is the key. They'll make you work SOOOO hard but just take it on the chin. Once you've finished basic it gets much better but you'll always need to keep up that level of fitness. Even the pros seem to look like they've had a really hard time at the end of a race or whatever so I guess nobody finds it easy. I guess it helps if you enjoy it. If you don't, then reconsider your choice of job. Good luck.
