I am leave to Marine Corps Boot Camp on the 26th of June, any advice?

God Bless you and thank you! My son is at infantry basic training at Fort Benning and we just welcomed my daughter (Air Guard) home from Iraq.
My advice for boot camp would be to make sure your loved ones write to you and OFTEN and that they understand you probably won't be writing back too often but you need their support!
If you aren't used to working out, start! Run, walk, do pushups, situps anything to help your endurance. Start going to bed early and rising before dawn, just the little things so the bootcamp schedule isn't more of a shock to your system than it already will be.
And be proud of yourself, you accomplishing something! Your country loves you and believes in you! You must too!

i went to parris island in 2000 and all i have to say is dont get down on yourself no matter what thay say to, its just a mind game. stay motivated!

It is a mind game. Just do as ur told and do it on the double. Advice to the Marine that told you to get into the Air Wing (Helo's), dont u believe a word he says. Just try digging a fighting hole in a Helo. Been there and done that. All the best to you and whatever u do, do not kill any of t he Sand Fleas. Once a GySgt, always a Marine.

Remember, to make a Marine the objective is to tear you down and then rebuild you physically and mentally. Keep your head on straight and you will be fine.

My husband works on Parris Island. Honestly...Do what you are told but try not to stand out. The more you stick out, the more you are going to be in the pits!!

wear the most basic pair of jeans that you own and the most basic t-shirt that you own. Don't volunteer for anything keep your mouth shut unless you are spoken to. Trust me on this the ones that are wearing the loudest clothing are the ones that will get the worst duties. My husband went to basic a few years ago and that is what he said his recruiter was a family friend so she warned him so that is my best advice, other than that take everything they say as training and nothing more they are making you what you need to be trust them they know what they are doing. I hope you got a guarantee on your contract, 0300, etc...

Watch Full Metal Jacket over and over before you go. It helped me. Boot camp was alot of fun. BTW, if you go 0300 Infantry, do everything you can to go into LAR, whether you go 0311 (Infantryman) or luck out and be 0313 (LAV Crewman). If you wanna see action, but wanna lower risk of your folks hitting the Marine Corps Lottery ($250K life insurance), do that, or go into the airwing, go do helo work, those F-ers never see action.

You have a short time before your life will completely change, maybe years before you see some people again and they may never be the same or on the same token you may not be the same. So, enjoy the time you have and I wouldn't stress learning everything before you go. Your friends and family are more important that the push ups you'll do for not know the right answer to everything, hell you'll them even if you know everything. Think, maybe 20 years, before your return home for go again. Make the most of your time.

Hey good luck and know that are gaining alot of peoples respect just for joining. As for advice, I myself am in the process of joining to, but I would say just keep your head held high and do whatever it is they ask of you. Just try not to stand out.

I'd suggest that you learn as much of the Rifle Creed,Marine Hymn,Enlisted Rank Insignia's,USMC core values,and the 11 general orders of a sentry.They'll teach you these things at boot camp,but the more you know before getting their the easier it will be.

Congratulations, young man. I served 22 months in Vietnam as an Army Officer. take advantage of all the training you can get. If they offer specialized training because you scored well on entry exams, I would recommend you take it, even if it means another year of service.

In boot, if they ask if anyone knows how to type, put your hand up right away. I got the typing job, even though I didn't type. My task was to type the duty roster. I left my name off of the list before they sent me back to the platoon because I was too slow. Never pulled guard duty or KP.

yes i do! just remember that boot camp is there to train you, it's all mind conditioning and physicial training! don't forget that! also, try to get your friends and family to write to you and stuff, it helps alot! keep your head up in there and congrats jarhead! yippee! you're doing a great thing serving your country!
