When you first get to bootcamp... You start to wonder what you got yourself into because they just line you up and scream at you and strip you down and put you in their clothes and shoes... After the first 3 weeks though, Your RDC's start to be a lot cooler. The instructors are cool and The food is pretty good. It's civilian made! It's only 8 weeks long. Once you are out of boot camp and your A-School. They treat you like a person again. You are allowed freedoms and don't have to be all crazy Gung-Ho Joe Navy. It's like a regular job once you get to your command. You will most likely work 5 eight hour days and have a duty section where you will stand watches on your duty day. It's simple as long as you can deal with people who outrank you telling you what to do. I did 4 years. Had a baby and got out. My husband is still in and plans to do the full 20 years. It's the easiest paycheck you're gonna get. |

Boot camp is a couple months of your life. It is a pain for many people, and easy for others, but it is just a couple months. After that, there is no telling what life may be like. I served for 8 years and got along great with the Navy. I left because I had other career plans. Others hate it from day one. I suspect that most of those that hate never quite adapt to life as an adult, away from parents and old chums. To see how you might react to that change, try a road trip on your own. Take off for a week without old friends and see how you like seeing new things and meeting new people. It can be a grand adventure but some people are not comfortable with adventure. |

Do as you are told when you are told and keep a low profile. Remember, they like to play mind games and will single you out if you bring attention to yourself. Remember the key in boot camp is to be a team, and the more of a team player you are will help you. |
