I am thinking of enlisting in the Air Force and i'm kinda lost. Any advice, information, or help?

I am a Junior in High School and I'm 16 years old. (going to be 17 in three months) I am really interested in Technology/Computers/Electronics and I'm currently taking a three-year class course in school. [ Sophomore Year: Electronics I and II, Junior Year: IT Essentials I and II, and Senior Year: Networking I and II ] My family gave me the idea of joining the Air Force because that's where all the technology is at and what not. I'm kinda interested and am really considering enlisting. It's just i have no idea what will go on once i enlist such as, Basic Training, requirements, minimum ASVAB score to enlist, jobs they offer that i may enjoy doing, whether i can bring along my family wherever I go, etc. I'm really lost and confused at this point and ANY information or advice you can give me will really help A LOT! Thanks in advance! :) -Davin

Hi Davin,
I happened to be online at the same time, I think.

You don't have to commit yourself to anything until you have satisfied all your questions and I'm sure there are good counselors at the Air Force information services, wherever that may be in your area, even if it is online. In fact you may find a lot of information you need online. However, it would be beneficial to speak face-to-face with someone. Just as you have asked the question here, you should put them before the information officer. You need to set up an interview with someone telling them that you are interested to join but have a lot of questions you'd like answered first. Young people are applying all the time to join the Air Force so I'm sure they have a lot of information they can supply you. So just gather all the information from as many sources as possible, or just find the numbers to ring, and go ahead with confidence. No confusion. And from one cyber friend to another, GOOD LUCK :)

If you want to continue your education, then I would join the Air National Guard or the Air Force Reserves. They pay a set amount for your college and you get the same training as an Active Duty person but you only work one weekend a month and two weeks a year. I would go to www.airforce.com to answer your questions. Also NEVER EVER go to an Army Recruiter, they will try to make you join the Army and that is not a smart decision.

The military has a large number ot technology career paths. Don't trust the recruiters to much not that they lie but they will put a positive spin on it. Life in the military is rough. I know people who wanted to get in bad and hated it and people (actually one person) who was less than enthusiastic and is still in the Marines sixteen years later. Its way to early to know for sure how you would like it. You should find people who were in and ask them about it. The military is more than a job its a culture and a life style.

USAF is pretty good, if it is right for you. Consider what your goals are, and talk to a recuiter. Good luck.

first of stating which country you are in would help in answering, alot.
secondly, if you are truely interested in it, i'd recommend consulting your countrys recruitment website(s)
and seeing what careers/requirements are available. also most countrys offer a live chat with a recruitment officer via thier website who would be able to answer all of your questions you might have about joining any branch of the military. if chat isnt available via the website or you'd prefer to speak in person, consult your local phonebook for the nearest recruitment office
heres some links for the various countrys

'My family gave me the idea of joining the Air Force '..........you wouldn't like it then. Joining the military is something you decide on your own, there is a lot of commitment involved.
