It was obvious the war was ending, but Truman made the decision to bomb to intimidate The USSR. An off shore bomb demo would have done the trick. The real rotten thing and there is no justification for it was the bombing of Nagasaki.Even if you buy into the idea that it was to bring the war to an end, you have to admit Hiroshima would have been enough. Dresden , Germany was totally fire bombed for the same reason. It was of no stratigic value, but it was on the route Russia was advancing on.

Because we were attacked by an ideologically driven enemy that was willing to trade their lives for our own. We believed that if we showed them that we could kill them exponentially faster, then they might stop attacking us. We were right.

I won't attack you for spelling. Both are tragic.

I believe the atom bomb had a warning before it was delivered.

Not so with 9/11 to my knowledge.

Research has continually proved that by dropping the bombs, and quickly ending the war... lives were actually saved. It's a tragedy to be sure, but there is always a price to war. Incidentally there were more civilians killed in the fire bombing other cities like Tokyo than were killed with the atomic bomb.

To end the war without another one of ours dieing. If we invaded them by land we would have lost thousands, even millions, more. We had a chance to end the war and we took it.

Better thousands of them than one more of ours.

As for 9/11, Islamic terrorists hijacked airplanes and used them against the United States, killing thousands of innocent Americans.
