I don't know what branch..?
|
hello,
I'm turning 18 on friday 03 august 2007, and I still haven't decided what branch to join. I'm planning on enlisting that day.. or the monday after.. I'm interested in the Army because it sounds glorious.. getting the chance to call yourself a soldier. Then there's the Navy, that sounds interesting too. The Air Force is the branch my mom wants me to join. She doesn't agree with any other branch than the AF. I told her Army, and she freaked out. She was like, "well, what's your logic?" "let's have a heart to heart talk here, and tell me WHY you'd want to get shipped off to Iraq".. I didn't have anything to say, because I don't want to tell her my real feelings. my entire family doesn't believe in me.. and I find it hard to believe in myself. So, Idk anymore. any help, or advice from present military members, past military members, or just civilians who answer this question would be greatly appreciated. Additional Details I want to join the military to serve this country. Give back to those who fought for my freedoms.

If you know how to read, don't join the marines. If you want good food, hot showers, and riding a bicycle for your PT test, join the air force.
Oh yeah, they are starting to make the Air Force do army jobs...so that logic is out. |

Join the Navy. I was in the Navy for a 4 year tour. I was a Mess Specialist....a cook. I ate good and never had any regrets about serving my country that way. They Navy offers world travel and great work assignments. Once you get past boot camp (which is really easy) you will get the adventure that you signed up for. I dont mean to disrespect the Marine Corp or the Army, but what they do is quite dangerous. The Navy will give you a job and get you home when your contract is over. GO NAVY. I visited 6 different countries and came home very much alive. There is great honor in serving your country in the Navy. GO NAVY. Email me if you have more questions. seriously, do. |

Air force is a cushy job. You spend most of your time on a base and you are off the clock when you go home. There is no bivouacking, there is no spending six weeks on a ship at sea, there is no fire fights, there is nothing that would be inconvenient to a pretty young girl such as your self.
If you want fight and action, Marines all the way. |

It depends. If you want to be totally safe, Airforce. If you want to fight, Army or Marines. If you want a little of both and to see the world, Navy. |

You may want to take a little more time to look into this. Each branch is different, but each can be fulfilling. If you haven't done so, talk to recruiters. Good Luck with this. |

Join the branch you want. My BF is Air Force and he loves it. Theres still a huge chance he'll go to Iraq and if he doesn't he'll be going to Korea. Take pride in your decision. Research career fields and possiblities for cross training. Find a position that interests you. As you already know theres oppurtunities for school. My BF is looking at going to school for a degree in Regional Studies and hoping to go into CIA. Look into a position that will help you after your military life. |

If glory is what you seek, don't join. If money for college is why you want to join, DON'T!
If you want to do something with your life that serves the greater good and will make you a better person, sign up. As to what branch, they are all good. And no matter what branch you choose, you will take sh*t from the other branches and you will get the chance to fling your own sh*t. That's all part of the friendly rivalry between branches. They all have something to offer. You need to talk to all of them if you are undecided.
The big question you need to ask yourself is "What is it I want to do in the military? What job(s) could I see myself doing for the next 3 to 30 years?" Once you have answered these questions check out what each service will offer it to you (in a contract) and go from there. |

Take a deep breath and think again about your decision. You will be committing yourself to years of service in an organization larger than yourself. You will be asked to sacrifice many things, with little to count on for your efforts.
Sorry if I sound harsh. But, I don't think you are ready to make that commitment. |

What do you want to do with your life?
Once you have decided that, see which branch can give you the training which will assist you the most in reaching that goal. If two branches give you the same training, go with the one which gives you what you want. EXAMPLE: If you want to be a police officer, and you want to reduce your chances fo going to war, join the Coast Guard, but if you want cash, join the Army as an MP, (highest bonus), but if your goal is college money, go Air Force.
One note, I recently attended the funeral of a friend who died in Iraq, Air Force Reserves.
If you succeed in the military you will have a reason to believe in yourself, and you can ignore those who don't believe in you. |

Your approach is wrong. You do not ask other people to tell you what you really want. Chances are you might end up enlisting into something you don't like, and it will be a total failure, especially if we are talking military.
Also, the fact that the soldier title sounds "glorious" should not be the decisive point, and unless you have more reasons that you are not telling us, then the Army is not for you.
Your best bet would be to get to know what you will be dealing with before you make any choices. Do go on a small road trip, get to know well all the branches there are, visit training sites, talk to recruiters personally - in fact, the recruiters will probably help a lot more than anyone on this forum can.
I hope in the end, whatever you choose is what you really want. Good luck! |

Ask yourself, Why am I joining the military? for yourself or to get away from problems , family or otherwise
What would I be interested in the Military?
job, career, something(skill, knowledge) that you can use in the civilian world.
All the branches in the military have their people in Iraq!
It all depends on your military job.
its all up to you its your decision, choose the right one for YOU and not appease other people.
Finally, Don't go to the recruiting station alone! preferably with a veteran or prior service person. Don't let the recruiters "sell" you on any military job that sounds exciting or glamorous! Ask a lot of questions before you sign a contract!
best of luck on your decision! |
