If you check your contract, you're still roped in for the duration of your commitment. In fact, even if you live out your contract, they can "reactivate" you for up to six years following. I'd say they're being honest, but it's a bit unethical. I'd speak to an attorney if you're that averse to going.

If you were kicked out, then you are out. If you are allowed to join the reserves, you can be deployed just as easy as being active duty.

Is some random career counselor trying to give you an IRR counseling or recruit you? Actually you can get a waiver to affiliate with a reserve unit if you are in the IRR, which can come with a 24 month stablization letter, which practically saved my butt from getting recalled.

Those scare letters and tactics are used on everyone. I got out on an honorable discharge, in finance MOS, overweight, and almost completely red-green colorblind, and I get the same thing. Just last week I had a recruiter try to convince me to join the reserves, saying that would be the only definite way to avoid deployment for sure. I know she is right, but I also have a good idea as to how the system for call-backs works. They'll take the most proficient of soldiers first, those who were in shape, promotable, and had lots of awards. Those guys will get picked up way before people like you and me will. It also helps if you were in a pretty overpopulated MOS. :-P

By booted out do you mean dishonorably or less than honorably discharged. If so, you should definitely consider returning if it will give you a chance to clear your name and acquire an "honorable status".

you mean the emails from whoever USAR?
you're still on the list for IRR, its not garunteed you'll get activated and deployed, its a possibility but if you were booted from teh army then the second they activated you they'd look at your record and be like "yeah, your exempt. bye".
its just a scare tactic used by these terroris---i mean reserve recruiters-- to get you to try to join the reserves.

You are out for a reason, enjoy life and be thankful you're not over there
