All you can do is pray and be proud of him. He is trying to make a differience and helping make his country safe. I know it's hard for you, but you'll survive. Just love him as much as possible and do whatever you can to stay together. <3 |

Well... my brother is in the army. I think u should respect ur fiance, but talk as well to him. My brother has a girlfriend and in England there is a strick rule of wifes an husbands only living on base. but u can get a house outsiode to live in....it cost though which requires saving so he probably is thinking long term, also, most of the learning and fitting in takes part part in the first few months etc, its different, hard work... hope this helps an dont worry, bro's been out to iraq several times.... |

1st of all, the recruiter don't know squat in regards where he gets stationed or temporarilly assigned duty (war zone). If you love him, just support him. Trust me...living at home w/ mom will be a place you will wish you could get back to once you experience a few "arm pit" living quarters in this country.
Thank your fiance for serving our country. |

Just because he is a mechanic doesnt mean he wont go to Iraq. who do you thing works on the vehicles over in Iraq? It will be your husband. It doesnt matter what your M.O.S. is you at some point will go to Iraq, unless we get a stupid democrat in office and they pull the troops out. Anyways support your man and remember( both of you )why he is in the military and what great things you are doing for your country. Also I know I couldnt live with my parents for 7mo. I would go stay somewhere else, unless you have a good relationship with your mom, you know that better than anyone else. |

I dont know what kind of relationsip you and your mother have but having 3rd parties too close in your relationship (especially nosy, judgemental parents) can be unhealthy to the little time you have together. Pray for his safety and live on the base. |

Sorry to say the but the recruiter doesn't know weather your fiancee will deploy or not. His job is to get your husband in and shipped to BCT.
My husband is a helicopter mechanic and he is in Iraq right now. He also has friends and they fix the humvees and other military vehicles and they are all in Iraq to.
The other thing is that you said his AIT is 4 months long and that he would come and get you at 3 months. Usually in AIT they don't get to go home for any length of time if at all. They might get passes to go offpost or to other areas of post but dont count on seeing him while he is there. The only way a wife can get on orders to move with the spouse to AIT is if the AIT is 20 weeks or over.
As the other lady on here said you will need to be married 1st for him to qualify for BAH and for you to get into the DEERS system so that you can qualify for health benefits as well as a Military ID card which will give you access to the commissary and PX on post.
Good Luck! |

stay at home because less of danger and he will have less to worry about to save you and on the way to get you out getting killed; its better you stay. i suggest that you put your money in a bank so it can grow and get bigger by the time he comes; just make sure you never know he may have to go to Iraq its better that he will be working on cars. |

i think u could try to convince him to not go. i guess living with your mom is a good idea. all you can really do now is probably hope he is not going to Iraq. Its wouldn't be good if he fought in war. Don't waste time and worry, just have fun with him when you can. All u can really do is hope he won't go to war. Don't think about the results if he goes to war. Just keep thinking that he is a going to come back to you safe. |

Hi there.
Couple of things. First, the military won't pay for off-base housing for you, unless you're married. And, they won't pay for that until he's completed all his training, so that should help you figure out when the housing thing will be able to happen.
Second, everyone goes. However, when they're deployed, they still do the same jobs they do when they're stateside. They just do them overseas. My son is an Aviation Electronics Technician. He deployed to Iraq and spent his time in a trailer in the middle of a huge air base, in the middle of the desert, in the middle of nowhere. He never heard or saw any combat going on. That means, if your fiance is going to be a mechanic, he'll be working in a "garage" fixing vehicles... and that doesn't involve patrolling streets or knocking on doors with a gun in your hand. Hopefully you'll be able to relax a little about that! :)
The one thing you need to know is that while he's in boot camp he needs to get a LOT of letters from you.. Every day if you can. They don't need to be long, they just need to pour in regularly. While he's there, it's your job to encourage him. He'll be missing you something fierce, and you won't want to burden him with how much you miss him, blah blah blah. He's missing you AND going through the hell of boot camp.. He needs you to be his cheerleader while he's there. That's THE best thing you can do for him!
Best of luck to the two of you! |

They say that to everyone to get them to join. We are at war and will be for some time so it would be niave for you or him to believe that he will not go. The usual stint is 18 months. I pray for you because it is a scary Situation. You will probably be happier at home.. The base is full of army wifes who are lonely and unhappy!!!
Good luck with your choice. I hope he will remain safe! |

If you married into the military, get ready to move around a lot at the drop of a hat. You'll have to be prepared for him to get shipped off wherever and whenever. It's not an easy life and it doesn't pay well until he becomes a major, capitain or an officer. |
