Depends on what it's for. I think you'll probably be fine, though. |

I met someone who told me that they'd been to jail and still became a marine, so unless they were lying then I think you're okay. |

less and less are applying for military positions, i think they might happily overlook that issue. |

There are certain things that are waivable. Only a recruiter would know the list on what is and isn't. Things are always changing as recruiting demands rise and fall.
Normally, if it isn't a felony, doesn't involved a weapon or domestic violence, or have any gang involvement the chances are good it will be overlooked.
Being that you were 12 years old I am going to assume it was some immature act and you got caught. Don't worry. Talk to the recruiter anytime you want and make sure to fully divulge the incident so you have nothing to worry about. They don't like finding stuff out you didn't tell them.
Good luck. |

Listen im actually going through this right now and i had 2 felonies when i was 16. Just let them know before hand like everyone else said as long as its not gang related, or weapon charges your pretty much good for a waiver LET THEM KNOW BEFORE HAND. Your gonna have to go get you juvenile record for the Marines and write long statements about how it was wrong your sorry blah blah blah. You might even have to get character references from past employers also since you were in young Marines get a recommendation from the highest ranking enlisted or officer. These are all things i needed to get to get my waiver cleared so now that you know be prepared. Stay out of trouble with the Police and you'll be good to go |

OK Im not from the states so I'm not too sure about your laws, but over here in Ireland:
A lot of people assume they have a criminal record when they are young and get caught for minor offenses like shoplifting etc. The police arrive and they make it seem as if you're going down in the books. Most times they are noting your name but you cannot have a "criminal record" without being convicted in a criminal court. That is the bottom line.
Can you be a little more specific about what you did or wheather there was a court session, ie: are you positive you actually have a criminal record? |

These are the questions that a recruiter will ask you: DO you have a felony, DID you graduate high school, ARE you at least a senior in high school, AND are all of your charges taken care of(meaning are any of them still open like you still on probation). If you are a dropout than you would have to score well over a 50 on the ASVAB and even then they only take like 3 dropouts a year. |

I don't think either of those will be a problem. I know a guy in the 82nd Airborne who's an only child (his brother died when he was young), PLUS his dad is dead so really he's the only person his mom has left...he's being deployed to Iraq in about a month. As for the criminal record, since you were very young at the time and haven't been arrested since (that I know of) you should be fine. But yes, talk to a recruiter now so you can start getting together any paperwork you should need or start preparing for the Marines. |

ask your recruiter if you can get a waiver |

You will need to get clearence from whatever judge you dealt with when you were 12. |

They take felons at this time something they never did before you will be accepted. |

A 12 year old record should not be exposed. If all of us had our dumb things as teens used against us, we would not have a military! You want to support this country! Don't tell! |

The core is for nim witts and half criminals, so your record is almost a prerequisite. |

Ask a marine recruiter. Maybe you should have been thinking about that question when you were committing the juvi crimes, eh? |
