I just graduated college and cannot find a job in my area. Thinking about the military. Any thoughts?

Which do you think has a boot camp that a girl could get through? Which has the best benefits?

Which branch of the military would I not have to worry about being "on the front lines"? I have a 2 year old daughter.

Any thoughts on the military and specific branches would be a great help. Thank you in advance.
Additional Details
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, with a double major in Marketing and Management and a concentration in Psychology/Sociology.

Excellent idea. You learn leadership, and it looks great on a resume.

I'd suggent you visit the recruiters, hold back no secrets, and see what they have to offer.

I'm not going to blow smoke, as I am a former marine and a current NG. Every service's basic or boot is designed to be difficult, for men or women. It all depends on how bad you want it, to graduate, how far you are willing to push yourself.

All services have the same benefits, regardless of the branch.

Realistically, you might be posted to the "front lines" in any service. the chances of how close you are depends on the job you select when you sign your papers. A combat role is a guarantee, but a support one you would be deployed further from the "lines"

You will have to effect a temporary transfer of custody to a family member while you are at basic or boot camp. Your recruiter will be able to explain this and other things better than I can.

BTW, females are not eligible for combat MOS's and therefore are restricted to support roles if anyone wants to know.

.
All branches offer the same pay and health benefits..but if you have a bachelors I'd recommend joining the Air force or the Navy as an officer .
Those two branches offer jobs with a bit more technical training that would do you some good once you leave the service.

My brother's-in-law all did that. I'm not sure I would at this time, though. Try the air force. They're not on the ground and not even in the fight unless you're a pilot. Or go into the Coast Guard like my one bil. He's still in and he's in Alexandria.

Do what my dad told me to do....join the airforce...of course I didn't listen and joined the U.S. Marines. If you have a 4 yr B.S. or B.A. inquire about the OCS Officer candidate school. They all have the same benefits but the air force is hardly even like being in the military...the marines on the other hand take their military bearing quite seriously...the army and navy are in the middle. The air force had the best chow hall I was ever in too....it looked like a holiday inn cafeteria.

If you don't wanna go front lines go coast guard. Every other branch is on the front lines in some way or another.

As faraas a career, or a four year hitch goes it can be a good move it the committement does not bother you. It does have its disadvantages, the military is not like open society, it is a closed world, with its own set of laws (USMJ) and expectations. Also you serve for good or bad for whoever the Commander in Chief is. If I had a child, and was interested in serving I would look at the Coast Guard or the Navy. When I was in the USN we had a saying...three hots and a cot every day...Army and Marines ....not

You have a degree, great...YOU WILL STILL HAVE TO THROUGH BOOT CAMP

I don't think joining the military should be the last solution since you can't find a job. Plus, you have a daughter, and it won't be easy for either one of you to be apart. What about doing real estate investing? Email me and we'll talk about it. Good luck!

Rukiddin - I'm in the Air Force and we are definitely one the ground in Afghanistan and Iraq. We have thousands of airmen deployed to SWA, in harm's way, who don't fly planes. Read a news article once in a while.

I'm an Air Force vet. Best care of individuals, best care of dependents and best care of facilities. But the real secret is to stay out of military services altogether. If you have to join the Air Force has the slowest promotion rate, but best services, best people, best facilities, and best education services. And, unless you are a fighter pilot, you won't be on the front lines.

you should have got your degrees in law enforcement, but seriously you should just keep looking. Don't be so picky for now, just get your foot in the door somewhere.

It depends on your degree. With a useful degree there is OCS/OCT for a commission. If you go enlisted the USAF is best for staying with your family. The USN is safe, but sea duty doesn't allow wives and kids. The USCG is similar but they work harder than the Navy. Technical degrees can get you into US Army Warrant Officer programs and good duty. You better be able to do push ups, sit ups, and run for 1-2 miles too. You also have to be able to maintain a weight or get the fatboy boot. Your business degree should be good enough for a butter bar in one of the services.

You have a daughter, think of that, because if you join the military, you will not see her very much, and if you join the army, and are not married, you will have to give up custody of her. The military is a good thing, don't get me wrong, it's just not a great thing for parents, or families. My husband is in the Army, he leaves at 5 am every morning, and doesn't get home until 6pm every night, soon he will be going to training, he will be gone everyday, all day, for the better part of the next 2 months, plus, in BCT, you are gone, at least, the very least, 4 months, I know it doesn't sound long, but it is. Just remember, Think about your daughter.

Do it!! you have degrees so will jump to the top!!
I believe you don't have to go to boot camp.
