you can quit if you want. you aren't obligated untill you get on that plane and ship off. ok, you go to meps and sign on the dotted line, and swear in. but its just to make you think you're in. when you go back to ship out you do it all again. you sign again.. you swear in again.. the 2nd time is the real time. |

Searching for something to do

No, you dont have to go. Just call your recruiter and tell him that you had a change of mind. Mind you when you call they are going to try to talk to you intogoingbut if you are not cut out for the military then dont do it. Going there to fail is going to be alot worse than just backing out now.
I see that you added something about troops coming out of Iraq. One think you NEED to remember, YOU are a soldier. Going to WAR is what you do. So if you dont go to Iraq there could be some other place else to go. Fear is a given but ALWAYS remember you CAN go to war! |

Takes no talent to quit. Rest assured that there are better men and women who will defend your freedom. |

Did you swear in at MEPS? If you did then your in the military.
I dont think you did because usually they ship you off that day.
If you didnt then you can still change your mind.
If you dont want to go then dont. As a Marine I dont want someone like you watching my brothers back. The Marines want people that are 100% committed, not half-@sses. Its not like they have recruiting problems anyway.
If you want to go then do so but go 100%. |

When you swear in to MEPS you are sworn into the delayed entry program, not the marine corps. You can quit before you leave for boot. you are only 100 percent commited when you swear in at boot camp. How ever you should follow through with your commitment. when you graduate you will be proud that you went through with it. |

Yes you can. All that BS and paperwork you did at home doesnt meet squat. Everything is redone at Bootcamp. Then your surely in. Rest assured your gonna be seen as the biggest sissy in the U.S. Should of never joined and been scurred then joinin and then trying to be scurred. You remind me of this punk in bootcamp who started crying the first day screamin " I want to live the college life Sir!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" ha ha pathetic. |

If you haven't been sworn in at MEPS then you won't have to go. But you should consider what the marine corps. will do for your future. I hope you have a good back up plan if you decide not to go. |

to late now... you signed the dotted line and took your oath. you are in like it or not.
I am sure you are just having apprehensions about it as it is a big change in your life and you will be place in some stressful situtations during boot camp. This is normal. I get that in civilian life changing jobs wondering if I did the right thing or not.
Just apply yourself during boot camp and keep your nose clean.... you'll be OK. |

Well, if you already swore in at MEPS then it's too late... However, since you haven't left yet I'm going to say that you haven't sworn in since they usually ship you out the day you swear in.
You should have thought about this before hand, that way your not backing out, and dropping a promise you made you yourself and your country. Before you do something, think with your head next time. You should step up and be a man... |

You JUST joined and you leave in 5 days?? I doubt that..Yes you can quit if you want..The law states that until you complete boot camp you are a civilian..If during boot camp you are let go for one reason or another than you will be seperated, not discharged...No one is gonna tell you you dont have to go through with it because then everyone would just try it for a while then quit..Just dont go.YOUR FULL OF **** !!LOOSER |

I do not believe you are officially in yet....as you swear in at the MEPS just before heading into basic...so, you most likely are not contractually bound....talk to your recruiter, or the recruiter of another branch and they can clarify.....though your MC recruiter will most likely not be forthcoming with the info,,,perhaps have your parents go with you for support in your decision....which ever way it goes
Is it just the pre-big life decision jitters, or is there a definate reason you changed your mind? |
