It depends where you live, if you live with in the EU, then Article 8 (Family Rights) of the European Convention on Human Rights states that individuals have a right to peaceful enjoyment of their private property and has been used to gain compensation in past legal cases.

If the USAF continue to just put the phone down, I suggest that if you live in the UK you contact your Local Authority Environmental Health Department and your local Member of Parliament, as well as the Ministry of Defence itself (see below).

http://www.defra.gov.uk/ENVIRONMENT/noise/suffer/suffer3.htm

Following your complaint, the noise levels will be measured by either the Local Authority or Department of Environment to see if they exceed agreed limits.

http://www.defra.gov.uk/environment/noise/noiseact.htm

You can also complain to the UK Ministry of Defence itself if you are not getting any satisfaction by contacting the base itself.

http://www.mod.uk/DefenceInternet/AboutDefence/WhatWeDo/AirSafetyandAviation/LowFlying/HowDoIComplainAboutMilitaryLowFlyingActivity.htm

All complaints received regarding low flying aircraft are treated seriously, by whatever means a complaint is made the details are recorded and, if appropriate, an investigation is carried out so that a suitable reply can be given to the complainant.

There are a number of ways that a member of the public can register their complaint about military low flying activity.

You can write to the Ministry of Defence (MoD) at:

Ministry of Defence Directorate of Air Staff
Complaints and Enquiries Unit
Level 5, Zone H
Main Building
Whitehall
London SW1A 2HB

Or telephone/fax your complaint to the MoD

Telephone: 0207 218 6020
Fax: 0207 218 2680

Was the base there when you bought your home? If so, you're out of luck... best bet is to find a new place to live.

Were you there before the base was built?

. . . . . . . . . . . . didn't think so.

You (or your parents) bought KNOWING that there was a military AIR base near your home.

Might I suggest insulating your home?

Most bases in foreign countries have agreements concerning this with the local government and I would suggest you contact them and see what they can tell you. Any complaints probably should be routed through them and reach the level that it needs to rather than you just calling base ops to complain about the C-5 that just flew over that shook your house. Thing like acceptable noise levels, quiet hours, and even the restriction of certain aircraft from operating above a certain speed or at a certain level of power are not uncommon in these agreements. Sometimes these agreements are modified or things are waved during heightened operations but there is an agreement there in place I bet already. I know of several bases or flight-lines that were closed during the past twenty years partly because of this in foreign countries.

There's a reason that houses by the airports, both civilian and military, are very cheap to buy or rent hon. No, there is nothing you can do about it....other than move.

ROTF LMAO...You just have to be a sillyvilian...
The ONLY recourse you have is to MOVE...
Guess you didn't do your Due Diligence before
moving to the End of an AF runway...DUH...
It's not like you couldn't see the Base...
as it is rather large...

Just in case you don't know...
Those Planes are Carrying Troops and Supplies
to Iraq and Afghanistan...and are bring back
Wounded and Injured from that War...

The USAF bases overseas are very strict about flying times and about noise issues. There are times when they do have to perform night flying, it can't be avoided. And generally this is agreed upon between the local authorities and the air base leadership. Some noise is just going to happen, whether it's planes flying or just running engines.

As the others have said, if the base was already there when you moved in, then that's your own fault. You could have chosen a home further away from the base or not within it's airspace.

The legal noise limit is that you get to keep your freedoms.

I wish I could live at the end of a military runway and hear those glorious planes taking off. The sound of freedom!!
