The MST RATING (not "rate" - rate is your pay grade as an enlisted person, rating is a career field) is VERY diverse and you can be in the same department for four years and never do the same thing two days in a row. That's one of the big reasons I chose MST over all the others.

Besides, eventually, you won't be in the Coast Guard any more - whether it's just a four year hitch or a 30 year career - you will eventually get out... and MST sets you up for a HUGE array of civilian careers, to include maritime security, which is getting REALLY big and will stay that way for a long, long time.
