I will be taking the ASVAB soon to go into the army, but I need a ST 95 to get into Military Police (MP). I have herd that the average score is around 30-40, so how is this possible? I have dyslexia and I am slow at test taking. I have a diploma and I can read and write, but I'm not that great at spelling and math (I used spell checker).

Please take a moment to read the ABCs of the ASVAB if you want some more details. To answer your question (forgive me if I dumb it down too much, just want to make sure you understand):
The Armed Forces Qualifying Test (AFQT) is scored on a percentile, because it is an aptitude test (ASVAB stands for Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery). This basically means it is testing your different areas to see how well you understand things and what you are suited for.
If you get more right than lots of other people, you score a higher percentile score, because it is seeing how well you do compared to other people. So if your average percentile score is 30-40 as you've heard, and let's say 100 people took the test, you scored better than 30-40 of them. Someone who scored 75 on the AFQT means they scored better than 3/4 of the people who took the test.
The Skilled Technician score is composed from General Science (GS), Verbal Expression (VE), Mechanical Comprehension (MC) and Mathematics Knowledge (MK). Based on how many you get right in these areas will determine what your ST score is. For example, mine is 144 (so obviously not on a 100 point scale) which means I would be qualified for that MOS if there were training slots available.
So to improve your chances, those are the areas you should focus on practicing. With dyslexia, you may struggle so practicing is the best thing you can do for yourself. Get a book from the library or book store for ASVAB preparation. See how well you do on the practice ASVABs at military.com (also linked below). Try to pinpoint your weaknesses and improve with practice.

there are many people that are in the same situation. the score for the asvab differ. don't worry about the 30-40 score. that's your version test score. what you want to concern yourself with is the line scores. and if mp and truck drivers are the fall back mos'....then you will get it if you want |
