I need some input about the Air Force Reserve.?

I am currently looking into joining the Air Force Reserve. A recruiter told me that if I get called for deployedment, I can refuse to go with no questions asked. Also, if I were deployed, he said deployments are from 3 to 6 months long. It seems to good to be true. I was wondering if its true or not. Thanks.

I'm not positive but I don't think you can refuse a deployment. He's right about the length though.

If you refuse to deploy you may be held liable and discharged. The length of deployments is the average but not a guarantee.
My advice..find a different recruiter and look into the Air Guard while you are at it.
The mission of the military is to deploy, when ordered, and to fight and win our nations wars. If you're not able to commit to that, find another line of work. |

No, you can not refuse a deployment order no questions asked. You have to have a really good reason to deny the orders. But, pretty much all Reserve units deploy on a voluntary basis. Usually more than enough people volunteer to deploy, so no one has to be forced. That's probably what he meant when he said you can refuse to go. But if enough people don't volunteer,then the command will designate people to go. I've been in the Reserves for over three years. I've volunteered for one deployment, and turned down the opportunity to go on three others.
