I really want to join the Marines? Or do I?

I am in the process of enlisting for the army. I've always wanted to join the Marine Corps, but I was afraid I wanted to join just for the basic training (because its really hard).
so now I know a few things about the Marines like you can pick the job category or whatever, but you might not be garunteed an actual mos...
I really want to join, is there anything that I should know that would make me not want to be a Marine?

Well due to you being a girl your MOS selection in the Marines is tiny compared to the selection of the Army (70% of Marine MOS's are combat based which you can't be a part of). Marine basic is much more demanding physically and mentally, so it all depends on your personal strength and MOS preference.

I would not join the Army. Any service but the Army in my opinion.
Moving on, you can get most MOSs if you demand it. A few, like MP, that *everyone* thinks they want are always full. But, honestly, do you really want to be "the snitch" everyone hates? MPs are typically self-serving arrogant scumbags.
The recruiter might feed you some bs about going "Open Contract" -- refuse to do it. NEVER go Open Contract.
If you stand your ground, it will get worked out in your favor.

If not, I believe all the MOSs are reset every October. If you want, you should be able to wait until then and if you apply really fast get any job you want.

My brother is a Marine and he loves it.
It was seriously the best thing that ever happened to him.

He said basic training wasn't that bad.

The only thing I'd keep in mind is I've heard they only let a limited amount of girls in. Go talk to a recruiter. Talk to people that are in the armed forces. Research online about the differences between the Army and the Marines and decide what's a better fit for you.

well only u know and u got it a little bit better than guys in the marines, u get an option to go to war if the marines go so u could easily say no and not go but if u just want to go to the basic training i think there are some boot camp pograms u can sign up to

Join the Air Force, basic training is usually easier, especially on women. They are also usually in less danger when on deployment.

A higher percent of Marines have criminal records so the people you're around may be different.

After serving in the Marine Corps they become Alfa-Males that lead the way and end up being in the top of their fields. I have friends that went into the Army when I enlisted in the Marine Corps. They still work in a 9-5 Job, I finished my college BS degree in 2 1/2 years and went on to be a Federal Agent (I'm now retired and own my own Private Investigation business in AZ). They still work 9-5pm making 1/4 of what I make.
