I've been running Navy recruiting for a region for 5 years. Listen closely. Although a 38 isn't a great score, it is qualifying. It will get you in the Navy. Many times people try to retest and they find themselves disqualifying from the military because they do worse. Ask your recruiter to show you all jobs you are qualified for. Then choose the one that fits your needs. You may have to wait 12 months to get the school seat but at least you can get in. Do not retest unless you do something serious about your Math skills. Either take a class or get some tutoring. If you don't do this, don't retest. You only get 3 chances to test before you are disqualified for 6 months. |

Mine was an 86 and the recruiter tried everything to push me toward Nuclear Power School and I said no (I Hate High Math)
so I took EW (Electronic Warfare). EW's no longer exist in the Navy, Their job being folded over into the CTR Field.
Here are the current Minimum scores
USAF: 21
USN: 35
USMC: 32
USA: 31
ALL Branches require a High School Deploma or GED. only about 5-10% of the total enlistments are allowed to be GED. the rest must be a HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA. those who are High scool dropouts who went back and got a GED MUST score a minimum of 50 on the ASVAB. (this is for ALL Branches)
As to what specific "A" School will be open to you.
The Navy uses the individual ASVAB subtest score areas to determine whether or not a person qualifies for a job (rating). The ASVAB subtests are:
General Science (GS)
Arithmetic Reasoning (AR)
Word Knowledge (WK)
Paragraph Comprehension (PC)
Assembling Objects (AO)
Auto and Shop Information (AS)
Mathematics Knowledge (MK)
Mechanical Comprehension (MC)
Electronics Information (EI)
Sum of Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension (VE)

You can retake the ASVAB over and I will definitely do that. You scored a 38 is not a good number.Seriously, you will have the dirtiest job possible which is you will be on the flight deck chipping paint, cleaning the bulk heads, cleaning the decks, you will be considered a deck seaman. Which means when they muster all E-4 and below for working parties you will be assigned. If you really desire to go into the Navy, go to your nearest library and study for the ASVAB, they have books their that you can check out and study from. I really don't want you to get the shitty jobs. Don't sign on no dotted lines yet either. |

I don't think you want to join the Navy with a score of 38. Try retaking the exam or looking into something else like remedial classes at your local community college then take the test. When you join the military you have your basic training first then you train in an MOS job specialty and they have time to teach you how to count, read or comprehend. It's very fast paced. So if you don't have the noodle to be able to keep up you will be discharged, sent home and you will have a bad mark against you for loosing a federal job. |

If I were you I would take it over after you study, I beleave a 32 is the min. you can get in with so 38 is probably going to be bottom of the bowl. Your recruiter should have gone over job possibilites with you. |

38 is nearing the point at where they won't accept you. Retake it, or you will have a menial job. |

The girl who said she scored a 100 is lying. The max is 99. You should take the test again. It's not very hard. I took it my junior year in high school and I didn't even know what the test was for. I just took it to get out of class. I maxed it (with a 99).
To the guy who said he didn't want to go nuke then he missed out. It's not much math, the work isn't too bad, you get almost a degree out of the school, and the enlistment bonuses are really nice. I should know I'm a mechanic in the nuke field. By the way good luck and I hope you do join the Navy. If you have any questions email me at Furbags01@yahoo.com or IM me. |

At 38 in what...overall score, I doubt it.
There as usually several categorties, some show a preference to what you are good at. Yuor recruiter can answer your questions best. Good LUck. |

Why do you think you rate being a cook? How do you feel about chipping paint? |

Actually, you may not be able to join period. The Navy is currently ina drawdown situation, and therefore can be choosy about who they allow to enlist. This includes having different minimum standards for females, as there are overall less opportunties and jobs available to women, so they must ensure that only the best and brightests get in. It could very well be that you need to score a minimum of 50 on the ASVAB before you would qualify to enlists, even though the new fiscal year is about to start.
Go to your local library and get a few of the ASVAB study guides to see if you can raise your score sufficiently. |

I took it in 1993 and scored a 98. I would just study and retake the test. Maybe you will have to consider that it's just not meant for you to join the Navy. Keep all of your options open. In the meantime talk to the recruiter and ask him/her what to study for and then retake it when it is offered. I'm sure they will be more than willing to help you. |

Yes, just a few more years in studying...English, Math, Mechanical and science...it is always better to be an officer than being enlisted... and Navy is not a good stink to try your hand on with the score you got. |

I don't know any branch that will take you with a score that low. I scored a 100 on mine, and didn't really get the job I wanted. But I took what I could get. Study and retake the test. Try for at least a 90. |

I hope you're joking, that you got a 38. I got a 79, and that's not even that good! Study and retake. Or you'll be a cook or something. |
