wanted to sit down on a bench but saw the bench was dirty. he called two recruits over and made them sit down and clean the bench with their rear ends. i know this is a crazy question but did the drill instructor break some rule by doing this?

No! Recruits are lower than whale dung, they have no voice and are not deserving of consideration. This example clearly illustates how DI's break down the will of the recruit, so that he can be reborn into a US Marine. Semper Fidelis ! |

If you really went to boot camp you understand that nothing a d.i. does is breaking any rules.
Having a couple of privates clean off a bench is hardly against any rule. |

It's not against any rules and it actually teaches recruits to follow instructions without question.
You may have thought there was no reason behind what the DI did, but it's a matter of making people follow until they are trained enough to be leaders. |

LOL.....no, there was no breaking of any rules there. The incident you mention is actually quite routine. That's pretty tame compared to many things that take place at Boot Camp. |

I was a DI......While I would question the Jr DI's judgment.......no it was not "illegal"......just childish.
My rule......Everything I did carried a lesson.....something the 'meathead' needed to learn......there was no useful lesson taught here.....
I had another DI inspect my barracks..... during the debriefing he said, " I nuked private XXXXX wallocker'.....I said ok......what was wrong with the wallocker?.....He replied nothing.....i just did it......I threw him out of my barracks never to be allowed to return.... you use power for a purpose, NEVER just because you have it |
