I ship for basic in a month and am behind the eight ball?

I am 68" tall, 30 bf% and 240 lbs. I ship 20090519 and and starting to get concerned. I have been running on eliptical/treadmill a lot and thought that my conditioning had improved. However, i ran on concrete last night and dicovered that it is a whole different story. I do not want to fail in bct and get sent home. i have a family that is depending on me to succeed. I need help and cant really get my recruiter to respond. She just keeps saying "they'll get you in shape, youll be fine as long as you dont quit." all my buddies enlisted in the marine corps. Anyone thats been through army infantry training at ft benning i would love to talk to you. Thanks for your time. any advice would be appreciated.

30%BF ... you need to get that down to below 26% like yesterday.

i have some tools that may be able to help you. its on an excel sheet and i cant post it here. if you want it i will send it to you. but lets be clear here i am not trying to solicit this to you. if you want it contact me and i will in turn send you my email. again this is not not not not a solicitation. i have used this on my soldiers and never had a problem with it. but you will need to have some seslf motivation and disipline (did i spell that right).

I would continue running on the same conditions as you foresee in basic training. I don't think they will kick you off. Worst case scenario they'll put you in a conditioning group, then once you meet these standards they'll put you back in the normal basic training group. However if you stay in that camp for too long, then you'll probably be discharged...this however is VERY rare. You may end up going to a fresh new group in basic if you take long in the PR (Physical reconditioning group). This is all based of the Marines btw, so the army may be more forgiving. Also take a good hard look @ your diet. I don't care what anyone says...I believe it's 50/50. 50% diet and 50% exercise. Your body is awesome at coping with physical stress. So you can literally be 240 at 30% body fat, but be able to run forever. If your diet is not in check, your body will just have your current shape adapt.

BCT is 60% mental and 40% physical. Just having the drive and determination to do well will get you through. Just keep your eye on the prize and don't compromise your standards for anyone. Thanks for serving and the best of luck to you!

You'll do fine. It's more about drive to succeed than physical strength. There WILL be people in your division that are weak and can't make the cut. If you're the type of person that's already worried about something like this and want to make improvements you'll do great. I went to boot at around 225. Left at 170. Just work hard and thanks for serving.

Well if the army haven't changed since I went to basic. First of all, you will be enrolled in the fat boy club, aka overweight group. Which means more PT everyday. Then at the end if you pass everything but failing the weight test, you were sent over to the banana bridage, post basic fat boy club, until you pass.

You need to relax. Stressing yourself will not do you any good physically or mentally. Just keep doing your running. It is very different running on a treadmill then out and about. You will get used to it. Practice your push up and sit ups, eat right and drink allot of water. You need to loose some weight though. I have provided a link to the height/weight charts which also tell you bf% standards.

You will be fine. You will get into shape in no time. If you should fail a PT test you are not automatically sent home. You would be recycled into another unit.

Your worst enemy is going to be your own mind. Quit over thinking things.
