This is one of the dumbest ideas that I keep on seeing in this forum. Evidently most if not of the respondents have never commanded a squad/platoon/company or a battalion. The military is based on discipline (self as well as following orders). If a kid is already a trouble maker; he/she already has little self discipline and is unable to take or follow orders. I as a former commander do not need a screw-up in the ranks. My NCOs and Junior Officers do not have the time to teach a screwup the meaning of NO. The military needs to have people that have discipline established within themselves. The old adage of spending 90% of your time with the 10% of the problem children is no longer an advantage. One screw-up can ruin an entire organization and the mission, in addition get his team killed. |

i stongly dissagree if you lived on a military post you would definatly see the point but gangs are within the army as well many do recuriting it just teaches them how to use a weapon more effectively in the end and they will get out and do the same thing it doesnt stop
but things need to start with the parents if they would have raised their kids right in the first place then there wouldnt have been a problem |

Not in the proper army, we don't want troublemakers. A special pioneer corp with some hard nosed sergeants would be a good idea. Work their a*****s of for two years.
Well said Andrew. My lads would also agree with you. |

We have a professional military and one reason is because the standards are high. The Military is not a home for wayward boys. Now, that's not to say that many folks in came from less than perfect backgrounds, BUT the military is not a substitute for prisons. Gang Bangers belong in the penitentiary. Discipline, teamwork, esprit de corps are not attributes of the Bloods or the Kripz or even the Brand. Furthermore, with the complex weapon systems and other technologies in use in the military rules out the uneducated.
During Vietnam, Sonny Barger offered to deploy a unit of his set. (Oakland Hell's Angels) The government declined his kind offer. Point is that Soldering is not an unskilled or undisciplined endeavor. We should be proud of our professional forces and not entertain ideas to undermine the result of rebuilding that goes back to the 70's. |

Why would the Army want **** ups?? We already have enough of them... |

No! They are just gonna tarnish the image of the Army.
There have been increasing numbers of gang members joining the military to get training and after they get our they bring it back to the streets and just cause more havoc. |

Seems like a good idea but in practice it wont work, I say this because there was a lad in my area who was a trouble maker at school, I mean having fights with weapons.
Then one day when he was 20 he decided to join the army. After some time when he was on leave he went and stabbed his mum in the head!
Its really sick, and hes not being punished as such he was allowed to go in a mental home, I know hes probably not living luxury in there but people like that really do need to be separated from society. |

I think it should be an option to some convicts serving long terms. Murderers and people like that they would wanna keep out of the army. But say you gotta kid with a 1st time offence who did a violent crime cause he was drunk, or a drug dealer, or a thief than yeah give them the option of the army. And if they **** up they go to army jail which is much worse than regular jail. |

We don't want them we want people who are intelligent it's bad enough we keep lowering our standards first with DADT policy now they are lowering the GT requirment for certain jobs and making it easier for people to get waivers to joine we don't need to lower our standards anymore to let delinquants in also. |

they should be sent so they can be used as target practice |

I don't think I would want all the trouble makers in the army. It's not fair on the normal hardworking service men and women.
I also don't believe that anyone should be sent into the army a lot of these lay-about wouldn't even pass the fitness test and i don't want someone defending my country that hasn't got a clue and couldn't care less.
It might teach them some manners and respect but with most of them it would take a very long time to get through to them. |

I dont know about army, but you have the right idea, a kids boot camp would be excellent, using the same dicipline as army training, but without being trained how to kill people. Anything would be an improvment on the system right now, they might aswell send them on holiday, they get tv, music and xbox's in young offenders institutes |

I gues your suggestion is like shooting from the hip. If you are up to date with your CNN, you would have read about that U. S. Army sgt. who used a Koran for target practice. Oh, what efforts in diplomacy have to be expended, just to contain the issue, the damage control. What more if we send those wackos, wielding guns, who can't even pass our usual psycho test for gun owners. That's putting out fire with gasoline. Military service needs disciplined personnel. More so with professional soldiers. |

Well it would definitely deter others from committing crime and keep the prison numbers low.
Maybe they could learn responsibilities. |
|

Jellybean

no as then you would be teaching them unarmed combat for them to use when they got out. |
|

nicci12three

ah yes they should all go 2 the army,
if they went to prison instead they will end up worse by mixing with the wrong people, getting influenced by them and taking drugs coz every1 else is and coz there is nothing to do,
you are right, they would learn some repect, they will get such a harder time in the army like physical exercisins at 5 in the morning and drug testing every week or month they would think of taking drugs there.
also when any1 gets out of a bad lads camp, most of them change realising how much they needed their family and realising how much theyve hurt every1,
when ur in prison, you dont think like that, and dont learn anythin, most criminals who go 2 prison come out probably worse than when they went in, because of who they were mates with in there |

I so agree. These punk a@@ kids now a days need to learn a hard lesson and Iraq is the perfect place.Although the down side is that they would be putting are good soldiers in danger cause they wouldnt want to deal with the rules,Or authority |

Yes, national service would be a good comeback. Children would learn discipline, respect, law and order/punishment, /they would learn to form interpersonal relationships - I could go on but it would need a thesis. |

I thing its a very good idea and like that we do not see a lot o kids hanging about and getting to no good |

I think gangsters should be sent to the front line since they think they can fight. |
