More people die in car accidents than in combat but I don't see you giving up your car anytime soon. |

you are comparing paintballs to bullets flying over your head?
FYI- bullets will kill you, paintballs just sting
I do not think the military is for you at this point |

the military teaches you how not to die for your country, but make the enemy die for his country. remember, the more you sweat in boot camp, the less you bleed in combat. |

Don't go in the military and especially the US Army Special Forces.
Let me give you a clue, I did not meet one person who wanted to die in Vietnam, including those who were busy dying! |

look at it this way, you have a risk of dying everytime you leave your house. |

If you have any concerns or serious doubts, then don't join the military. If you did and froze or freaked out in a combat zone, you would be putting your life and the lives of others in jeopardy. The military isn't for everyone. |

Join the Navy or the Air Force if you want to be in the military but are scared of bullets and dying. |

everyone is afraid to die. its permanant. joining the military does not mean you are going to the fromt lines. you say you are smart then use that to get a job in the military that will not require fighting. its interesting that you are afraid to die but want to do counter terrorism stuff. that is a line of work that you could definitatly get killed in. |

first off i had d same thoughts ur having at first...its nothing like u see in d movies bro. out of an entire tour to war, u might have 2 or 3 firefights that last no more than a few minutes if ur lucky. and 2nd, who says u have to go into a combat arms branch?? ur smart so ur options are endless. im going thru the process to fly an apache helicopter. i love it to death. there are only a few jobs that are on the front lines. u wanna help this country, make d best of ur brain and abilities in d military. u can be in a medical field, communications, journalis, logistics, engineer, best of all....a civil affairs specialist. if u want to help people around d world thats d most rewarding job in d military.... as for being afraid, everyone is. but its how you deal with it that makes us american soldiers. after all d training ull go thru, theres shouldnt be a thing u cant set ur mind to do. ull have d confidence and d battle calm to overlap ur fear. were american soldiers, were elite |

Well I suggest you think about it some more. Finish school and approach all the different services and see all the different fields they have to offer. Negotiate a good contract for a good job that will allow you to contribute to the safety of others and at the same time keeping yourself relatively safe. |

Be more confident in knowing what you want. Ive never been in service or been on front lines so Im going by the words of those who have. The thing that seems to push them forward is finding a stronger reason to push forward rather than to retreat.
Either I've heard they push forward to protect their fellow commrades, or helping the people theyve liberated. You gotta ask yourself which is more important to you. Whether you decide to enlist or not showing verbal appreciation is always a good idea. Though I cant think of many things more noble than enlisting and actively protecting your country.
Some soldiers have told me they dont fear death anymore, that fear might or might not ever leave you the key is to find a reason to push forward despite it. Just my 2 cents. |

You have too many doubts and no clear cut reason to join the military. Sounds like you want to be patriotic, and I believe most Americans are, but we are not all cut out to join the military forces. I have the utmost respect for American military personnel, I love them, but I also believe they had a mission they fully understood before they signed on. |

Whether you are sent to the front lines for combat depends on what branch you join and the job you have. If you don't want anything to do with combat or combat areas, stay away from the Army and the Marines. Of course, the Air Force does combat as well, but that largely depends on the job that you have (security forces, combat control). And the Air Force does go to Iraq even if you don't have those jobs, but they do entirely different things and they aren't in THAT part of Iraq. But please be aware that no one is 100% safe in ANY branch or with ANY job because who knows how this current war will evolve. |

if you die you will die for a good cause while in the military..
your chances of being killed in your neighborhood are greater than dying in the military... to be frank you have a chance of dying everyday just living your life ya know?
& if you feel like that special forces is definitely not for you..
your gonna die one day anyway..
but understand that you could loose your life doing ANY job in the military..
but don't join if you're gonna think like that... if a situation came up you might cause others to get injured or killed |

Look, don't listen to what other people say on here. most of them don't even know what they are talking about and have never been in the military. Do what You want to do, never let someone's else's choices determine your goals. and YES there is a possibility that You might die in a combat zone...there is also a possibility You might Not die at all. Joining the Military doesn't mean Your going to die, it's never been about that. It's about a commitment to Your Country and the people around You. So If You are afraid of dying don't join, or join a different branch if your serious about this commitment. |
