I want to go into the military to help me get into the CIA, but don't want to die in a war- what should I do?

WOW a lot of your assumptions are kind of inflammatory. Your cousin is right though. Go to college and get a degree. Unless you are special forces or another high demand vocation and the CIA recruits you, you will have to submit your resume and ask to work for them.
Officers are different from enlisted. During war time, there tend to be more kids enlisting who have fewer opportunities than middle to upper class kids. The military is a way up and out for many. It gives you a lot of opportunities that you may never have thought of including an increased chance of working for other governmental agencies.

My fiance is in the army, and he is very intelligent. He did get sent overseas, but first to South Korea (not exactly a warzone). He did not get sent to Iraq until year 3. You might not even get sent to war.

And really, I'd just go to college if I was you.

The CIA would laugh at you after the interview even if you did manage to get some good credentials judging by your prissy, nancy boy attitude. I some how doubt you could pass the polygraph test...

You could try the Air Force or the Navy to reduce your risk of getting shot at, but somehow I sense that would only get you thrown out of a plane or end up with you 'accidently' falling overboard.

A bunch of responses come to mind... I'll restrict myself. First, if you are not willing to fight to defend our country, do not join the military. That's what the military does for a living.

Second, some of the most inelligent people I have ever worked with have been Marines. Do a little research on "logistics", for example-- Marines have to be able to load a ship so that it is not just perfectly balanced in the water, but so that it can be unloaded (under combat conditions) in such a manner that for every humvee that comes off, so too comes off enough weaponry, ammunition, food supplies, first aid supplies, etc. that it is ready to be driven into combat-- followed by the next one, and the next one-- not too mention the tentage, water desalinazation equipment, field hospital euipment, communications gear... to describe it most simply, there's no point in putting the rifles at one end of the ship and the bullets at the other, right? Now do that for an entire Mobile Expeditionary Unit, with all their gear... And tell me that "Marines seem to be the most unintelligent of all". I will allow that you are speaking from ignorance, and are still young enough to learn better. Please, do. For one thing, a bit more intellectual modesty will help you in your future career, if you decide to go into government service.

If you are really interested in the CIA, your best route is not through the military. Go to college. Study international relations, economics, geophysics, engineering. Learn to read and speak at least two languages well-- preferably Arabic and Chinese, and then maybe Russian. If you have the opportunity, learn a less-common one as well-- Ukrainian, Romanian, Korean.... Keep you nose clean in college-- no drugs, miniml alcohol-- and remember, the government and other future employers can look at your Facebook page too- not just your fraternity brothers.

Are you for real? Let me save you the time to think it over. Our U.S. military is for real soldiers and you don't seem quite cut out for what the job entails. It's not about your own glory, it's about fighting with a band of brothers to protect our nation. Rich kid, are you kidding me? Do us all a favor and go to college and turn in to some wacked out celebrity's DUI lawyer. Whatever you do, stay out of our military!

if you want to do a desk job you dont need to be in the CIA go somewhere else. i think the people protecting the nation should have courage and you sound very cowardly.

Try this kid....first take ur asvab test and see what u were eligble for.....i would not suggest the marines or the navy and i would rarely suggest the army but i would somewhat.....the other 2 branches dont treat their people as good as the army does but none of them dont treat half as good as the Air Force...in my opinion i think the air force treats them 1 half as nice....but yeah....u should aim high for the high security gov't clearance....which can be obtained based on the job that u are either chosen or u have chose!
Then.....u get ur education and then u apply its all in a nutshell but the formula is quick...but it will take time and u will have many things to overcome....Just because u go to college doesnt guarantee u a job in any field and just because u join the military doesnt guarantee u death. GOOD LUCK KID!

for the record i only suggest what i suggest based on ur credentials...u get anxiety from paintball wow so then ull have a heart attack when u hear a bullet? yeah and ur cousin what a loser....first because hes an uneducated redneck and he fits ur description...marines most unintelligent YEAH RIGHT!! all branches are equally smart in an air force dude....i tell u what those marine guys are so smart they'll take the pen i write with everyday and turn it into a weapon....but just as well can the air force but im not that specific...u must do ur research before u make unessential statements, oh yeah i almost forgot if ur going to die for something die giving something to someone else for the better of someone else....not just ur family and friends but think of someone elses family and friends DEDICATION!!

Buddy. if you are scared about seeing combat , then i honestly think you are not ready for the military. Even if you have a desk job, anyone can see combat. And if you are listening to those comments about military iq's and people being poor. THEN REALLY! the military is not for you.
There are tons of rich kids in the military, and poor kids. But you know what, they are serving. Many people make GREAT money coming out of the military. That whole marines have the lowest iq is BULL. They do not just let anyone join, there are Written tests that you have to pass to join. so not just anyone can join.

I want to see you sources for the info on how many poor kids join the military, and the IQ stuff as well .
If you want t join the CIA, go to college, get a degree, then think about the military.

but CIA majority of the time want a degree. getting into the CIA is very competitive , and i think the majority who get in are college degree holders. Military experience will help. look into intelligence in the military.
but really think about this. A military is not used for getting people jobs later on in life. even though it does that, that is not the militaries Goal.
Our military's goal is to protect this nation, and its interests.
that means if you are needed to fight you will!

Intelligence analyst need a 4 year degree at minimum, they really need a graduate degree.

First of all 4500 people from 7 different nations out of 1,500,000 troops over a 5 year period, and the odds of dying are almost 0.

The fact is that the ASVAB while some people say is easy, and the afqt composite score is based on the 9th grade level but the GT score is based on the 13th grade level. Anyone with a GT above 100 out of 150 is in the 90th percentile in comparison to people with 2 year degrees, and the 86% percentile of people with a bachelors degree. This found in DOD studies, and military vets make 27% hire then college grads. The GT score is the what picks what job you can get, and the ASVAB is set to weigh scores based IQ's of 105 or higher for a GT of 70 the lowest you can have and get any MOS.

The CIA elects to use vet hiring authorities that exempt them to many listed requirements, and 10 points for vet status & 10 points for being a person with a disability in 30 point system is why you almost have to have served.

The deal is you can have PHD but if you have no hiring authority you are not qualified, and the CIA runs 2 scales.

1. Education with experience measuring your experience against your education.

2. Special skills with a hiring authority. (The most liked)

The reason is are you willing to put your life in the hands of a person who never has shot some one before?

Go join the Navy cause it is smarter, go to college, and learn Chinese its the future.

One more thing never let people know your a rich kid they having a saying about the silver spoon that I can't post!

If going to paintball matches causes you anxiety then stay away from the CIA because you'll be dealing with real bad men with real guns that will kill you on film and show it to your family.

Where did you get your information on the military anyways? Most people in the military have average to above average IQ. Most also do not join as a last resort. Many join for the travel, to continue a family tradition, to earn college money, to serve their community. Most of the people in the military come from middle class families. I've seen rich and poor join and serve side by side. In the military the money your mom and dad have has no meaning. It is your character and honor that will set you apart.

Do you realize you just insulted the very people that keep this country free? Did you mean to do so?

Go to college and get a law degree - apply for a job with CIA. Many that both FBI and CIA hire have law degrees.

You should go into the Navy. I know there are jobs you can get in there that are behind the desk and deal with intelligence reports. But before you join drop the I'm better than you attitude if you want a chance to survive in any job in the military. They have a history of tearing apart self absorbed *******. Lose the Attitude and you'll go far.

Oh one last thing I dare you to go up to a Marine and tell him that he is the most unintelligent out of all the military.
