I want to join the marines after hs, but my parents will only let me join after college, what do i do?
Find answers to your legal question.

I want to join the marines after hs, but my parents will only let me join after college, what do i do?

ok, so i have talked to my parents about joining the marines. i want to enlist after HS, which will be in 2 years, im a sophomore but my parents say that the only way in hell i could ever join the military is after college. if i went to college i would focus on grades, but i need to focus on getting ready for boot camp, plus i dont want to be an officer, first i wanna enlist, use the gi bill to go to college and try to get into ocs. does anyone have any suggestions for what i can do, because if everything else fails ill just run away til i am 18 and join up.
any help is greatly appreciated, thanks guys.

It's still two years away, give your parents time to adjust to the idea of you being a Marine. As far as officership goes, I went prior enlisted and then got my commission. I feel that the prior Es make better officers but there is a lot to be said for getting your degree done first. One good compromise would be to join the reserves when you're 18, when you aren't pulling reserve duty you go to college. You are an enlisted Marine and going to college. It seems like it would be the best of both worlds.

Lilly's Mommy
You wouldn't have to run away? Once your 18 it's your choice if you want to go and join. I would suggest going RIGHT after high school, so they will pay for your education, and you'll have a job etc.
Good luck! And thank you for wanting to serve our country.

Just stay in school until you graduate. Get a job until you turn 18 then enlist. Your parents can't stop you once you turn 18. After you do 4 years, get out and go to college thanks to the military

When you are 18, you are legally an adult and can join the military. They can't stop you. You don't have to run away. The military will provide for you once you enlist.

I'd join the Army or Navy instead.

at 18 you can join whatever you want. you don't need mommy holding you're hand anymore

COUPONKELLEY
When your 18 its your choice and there is alot worse you could do to disobey them. Talk to a recruiter they deal with this kind of stuff all the time. Maybe he or she could explain things and tell them about the opportunities and the fact that you can get a paid college education as a reward for you sacrifice for protecting our country.

gman
Wait until you're 18 and join. There's nothing they can do about your decision.

you don't need to run away, just wait until you are 18 then enlist, I joined the marines my Sr. year of high school and was in the DEP for the rest of the year until I graduated. I was 18 when I joined and I did not need my parents permission.

When you get out the post 911 GI bill will be active which pays 100% tuition and gives you 1000 a year for books plus it pays you a living stipin equal to a e5 with 1 dependent in the zip code of the school. Where I live its 1300 a month. Also if you are going to school 3/4 time or more you can join the work-study program which pays you every 50 hours you work minimum wage tax free..... I pull in about 3k a month going to school :)

It's certainly not necessary to run away. That's the silliest thing I've heard all day. I'm not sure this country would be best served with someone who has that kind of thought process.

The best thing to do is stay on the course your parents have set out for you. When you reach 18, you can do whatever'nhell ya want.

Joshua P
Well legally your parents have no say whether or not you can join the Marines when you are 18. Being in the Marines will enable you to pay for college through the G.I. bill, and looks great on resumes (presuming you get an honorable discharge)

NSA
Okay. When you are 18, you do not need to 'run away'. And when you are 18, they cannot stop you from enlisting.

So, when you are 18 and graduate from HS, enlist. Don't talk to them about it anymore, just enlist. They can find out when they get a letter from you from USMC Boot Camp.

once youve turned 18, you dont need your parents permission.
and marines basic training is not hard. if you just go to the gym a few times your senior year you'll be ready.
i recommend growing some real balls and joining the army :P
jk

If you want to be a Marine, you need to step up and do it. As soon as you turn 18, sign papers and get your **** started. Do your first 4 years enlisted, then do MECP and become an officer. Once your 18, your are a grown *** man to make your own decisions. Show some balls and join the few.

yea dont talk about it to them. that way you wont have to run away, then again i dont see why ud have to anyway.

then when you graduate hs and your 18 you say "sionara" and join up.

USMC Wife, Pit Bull Mama
Join after HS, once your 18 your parents can't stop you. Focus on your grades while your in HS as well. Try talking to your parents again your senior year. Joining as enlisted and becoming an officer later on gives you a great perspective from both sides. And using your GI bill for college is a great way to save money.
The people suggesting that you join another branch of the Military are what we call USMC rejects. The USMC has the hardest boot camp, if you transfer from the Corp to another branch you do not need to go to their boot camp but the Corp makes any transfer go. Need to make sure they have what it takes.

you dont want to disrespect your parents.

try telling them that they put you through college for free. tell them about the college first program (if the marines have that, i know the army does)

if that doesnt work, just sign up the day you turn 18. and they cant stop you

xtreme2099
if you parents are gonna pay for your school then go to college first ...,the reason that alot people join as enlisted first so they can pay for college but you don have that problem so it seems.its better a degree to fall back and you probably get a better MOS (job) than the average HS kid that join the military.

Solarice
When you get your college degree, you probably wont want to join the military.

That's how parents get ya.

listen to your parents.

Adam122121
when you turn 18 you dont need parental consent to join up so really just dont run away just wait then when you are 18 they cant stop you

Bob D
Brittany is right. Finish college first, because, you will have a hell of a lot more options as a college graduate in the military than as a regular out of high-school grunt. I know what I'm talking about. Make the right decision. Good luck to you.
