If you join the army, you can count on going to iraq. I can't speak for the navy or air force, but from what I hear, they do easy, short tours of duty anywhere they go (just what I hear, don't crucify me). |

Military isn't your freebie to get your schooling and other benefits for free. You have to work for it. If you're not willing to fight the war, do us all a favor and don't waste our $ by trying to sign up. |

I suggest if you don't want to make a full commitment you better look elsewhere for college money. |

Please stay out of my military! |

Don't join the military if its just for the money. There are people out there who deserve the right join the military because they are actually doing it for a more noble reason then just wanting a quick buck. Get of your butt and go get a job and leave the money for people who actually deserve it. |

You would be better off joining Sallie Mae's Army or Direct Loans. |

Joining the military is a decision that should be made based on your desire to serve your country, not on how much you can get for school. So take your ball and go home. |

Once you join, you have ZERO control over where you are stationed. If you're afraid of going to war, get scholarships or loans. Stay out of the military |

If you are not willing do answer your county's call, dont join any part of the military.
Yes, even the Navy is on the ground in Iraq. So is the Air Force. Even in the Naval Reserve, Air National Guard, and Air Force Reserve get sent to Iraq.
Its an all or none-deal. Sure you could get lucky, but if you join and then try to be an objector, you just wasted about 100,000 in tax dollars.
-----Edit----
If you think Iraq is wrong, then don't join. Its part of the war, weather you wanted it to be or not. Maybe someday in the future historians will say it was wrong for the USA to allow Iraq to become the central front in the War on Terror, but fact is, Iraq is the central front. Since it is the central front, that is where we must go to fight the enemy. Even if the enemy was not there before, they are there NOW.
Like I said before, joining the US Military is an all-or-none deal. |

I want a few million dollars, but I don't want to do anything for it. When you tell me how, I'll tell you how to join the military without worrying about doing anything in a military fashion. |

so you just want the benifits without having to defend the constitution or any of the bad stuff that goes with it ? As a former soldier I say thanks but no thanks, don't really need ya |

I answered your other question already. Do something else, do not join the military. We do not need people like you, unwilling to deploy, in our units. You bring down morale with whining and crying. |

I have spent all of my adult life in service to my country, either Active Duty, Air National Guard or DoD Civil Service (in direct support of active forces). I will recommend the military to anyone; I think that it provides many opportunities for young people. I know that it did for me.
However, over the years, I have seen military members who have joined strictly for the educational benefits. They are NEVER happy. They only joined because they wanted the money. They never wanted anything to do with the military, they don't want to accept the military way, they are often very cynical and they often grow to despise the military. I have also seen the negative affect that these people have on others in the military who actually want to be there. Loss of unit cohesion, resentment among the ranks, complaining behind others backs, it is just bad.
If you don't want to go to war - DON'T JOIN THE MILITARY. I can assure you that you won't like it. Instead, why not look at other options? Check out Americorps or the Peace Corps. I believe that they often offer education benefits and you wouldn't have to go to war. |

Ok for starters the military does not "take anybody", you have to qualify! You may very well qualify but you are not military material and I would suggest looking at other avenues to pay for your schooling. If you are not wanting to go to war, then don't join the armed forces! We are engaged in a global war on terror. The likelyhood is that at some point, you will be deployed to the region of conflict, as that is what we do! |

Get over ourselves? You want the benefits of the military without taking all the risks? Even with the military in need of new people, it is ridiculous to think you have something to offer that is so stupendous they would excuse you from doing the one thing the military is meant to do...deploy in times of need. There are plenty of people serving in the military, and deployed, that may not agree with all of the reasons or politics behind what is currently happening, but if you talk with any of the military who have done a tour, you will find that they do feel they are making a difference. In any case, there is no way you can join and not be deployed..and it is naive and selfish to think you could. |

You should try this approach on the civilian job sector:
Idiot: Hey Boss can I talk to you?
Boss : Sure whats up?
Idiot: Well I know I could do a great job around here, and I want to get paid lots of money, but I don't want to do any work.
Boss: Ummm, NO! You're fired!!
No free handouts in life kid, get used to it. |

Bottom line: if you are UNWILLING to go ANYWHERE you are needed, then do NOT enlist. period.
you don't get to pick and choose what battles to fight, what war to be involved in or even what time of year you deploy.
and YES there are PLENTY of Sailors in and around Iraq/Afghanistan, sea and land. in fact, you stand a pretty decent chance of being tagged as an IA and being sent to help out an Army or Marine unit already there., no matter what your rating is.('cept Nuke. Nukes never get tagged for IA) |

Did you know if you get hurt before the qualification time is up you don't get a penny for college. There must be better ways to fund your education. |

Do not join. The military eats people up. They may very well send you to be part of the disgusting attack on Iraq. Don't waste your time in the military. |
