I was told I could get a military ID, is this true and how?

I am with a non-active duty national guards man and we have been living together for the past 2.5 years. We are engaged and making plans but I would like to us the gym. I was told by a military person it is possible for me to get an ID through common law marriage laws...but how? I was told it had something to do with TRICARE but that is all I know. PLEASE HELP!

You have to have a certified legal marriage license to prove to the military that you are married to a service-member. Once you have that, your husband has to enroll you in DEERS at the nearest local post. After that you get your ID card. You wont get Tricare because your husband isn't Active Duty. Common Law Marriage does not apply.

someone lied to you

your not a dependent you dont qualify for one
you have to be married to a service member not shacked up with one

you arent entitled to one until you married to one

NWIP
The Federal Government does not recognize common law marriage so therefore you are not a dependent of his and not eligible for a military ID card. Once you are married your information is entered into DEERS and eligible for the ID card, use of base facilities and under Tricare for reserves which is medical. There is still a monthly cost to you and limited providers

typically, common law marriages don't count until after 7 years, however, the military does not recognize common law.

Not untill you are married. Strict rules on that. Anyone could be able to get an ID if that were the case so they have to have these rules in place

Aim High
So long as you are not legally married, you are not his dependent and thus ineligible for any benefits.

Whoever told you that is completely wrong. The military does not recognize girlfriend boyfriend relationships or common law marriage. Only legal marriages with the official marriage certificate. I really don't know what state you are living in but 2.5 years in most states does not qualify as common law marriage, Its more like 7+ years.

Only when you two get marriage officially and register with DEERS will you qualify for an ID card and tricare reserve since he is not active duty.
