Well they will be looking into ways to prevent that kind of thing happening again.
I think they had to release the information they did in response to the Iranian propaganda, and the questions being asked in the media about why they made the 'confessions' etc. |

It's scary how many people wish to believe a terrorist sponsoring, woman stoning government over their own. |

we didn't expect the iranians to illegally take our troops from iraq waters in the first place. we will not let this happen again cos we are aware of the tricks of the irainians. so if we need to patrol near iran we will be ready to defend ourselves. |

Everyone knew that something had been done to them. Who the heck gets taken as a hostage and decides to spontaneously write a letter to their local MP! Everyone knows it's a waste of time doing that in the UK let alone when you're thousands of miles away and unable to vote!
We'll never really know what exactly was done to them because it'll be their word against the Iranians. They were always going to be released because the Iranians aren't that stupid. Blair and Bush don't exactly need a lot of persuasion to start going to war! |

They weren't physically tortured-they were reasonably looked after kept blindfold and separate and subjected to imaginary firing squads. Very unpleasant psychological abuse but no beatings |

Sometimes, the Middle East really has been demonised beyond recognition.
We have forgotten that we have much in common.
They were not always the bad guys you know.
The used to be friends until diplomatic relations soured.
Remember, the Brits didn't always were friends with America.
Don't burn bridges. |

The UK or the U.S. no longer have a moral high ground to stand on regarding the treatment of captives.
They just wanted to make some sort of statement that makes the actions of the Iranians to look in a worse light-- |

No! Iran is an outlaw regime They are not going to follow any rules and they are a threat to the civilized world and they are far worse for the citizens of Iran who are good people and they are not all brainwashed. Its good the world sees what really happened |

I like your questions as you are using your mind really. I think they were not tortured. This is an old game used by US in the incident of Jessica Lynch and I read what she said later after some time that nobody raped her and there was an Iraqi woman beside her all night also an Iraqi doctor took her to the hospital while another Iraqis showed the way to the group who saved her. She and other Iraqis were in the hospital said they heard heavy gun firing without a reason when the Americans came as no other soldiers or militants were around or inside the hospital.
At the same time we watched a complete show for the rescue of Jessica Lynch as if they were fighting ghosts while they took her from the hospital. |

As soon as I heard Blair sprouting his big mouth off, after they had been released. My first words were "God help the next lot 'cause they won't get away so easily". It's OK for a prat like him too mouth off, he is not risking his neck.
If I were caught up in something like that, I would play along hoping I would not pay with my life.
Everyone knows how he lies, it goes with the job, but saying unpalatable things is not clever. |

They will not be giving all the info out in the press, but the people do want to know what they went through, so now they have been de-briefed by the powers that be, they have clearance to say certain things about what they experienced, its not the first time and no, it won't be the last time someone gets kidnapped and held hostage, telling the press how they were treated will not heve any effect on any decisions of other nations to kidnap again |

It was fairly obvious to me even before the UK government started releasing deatails that they sailors and marines had been tortured into saying they had been in Iranian waters. These countries are well known throughout history for using some form of torture to gain what they want. |

They were not tortured, or even mistreated! They have said so themselves. What surprises me is the easy way they gave in and 'apologised' and apparently one even shook the President of Iran's hand! I dread to think what they would have said if they HAD been tortured. I mean really tortured!
To my mind, they did not aquit themselves very well, and the Iranians must be thinking "Hey, we must do this again sometime! We can get another one over on the British!" |

In the United States, the troops are not obligated to keep any information from the Media. To my knowledge, because of freedom of press, etc. If the commanders did try to withhold information surely it would be a scandal. Not coming out with the story is a sure way to make people speculate, this has been avoided. UK is cool. |

One of the seamen could be heard thanking the president of Iran as he shook his hand it was on the news last night.
They said they had not been tortured and at one point you could see them laughing and smiling when giving a statement on Iraqi t.v
There is something not quite right about the whole thing. |

The sailors and Marines were there, you weren't. So if I had to believe your story or theres, you can probably guess I'd believe theres. |

so we saw on tv those people admit they were in iranian waters.we know how these people work......our government know how they work.....we gave them nothing to go on and they threw everything at us.....they achieved nothing and let our lass and lads go....they may have scored points with people in their part of the world but when people from them parts see by the internet what the sailors are now saying happened they will have to form a view from one side or the other.......either britain has told them to lie or has told them to tell what happened.....as a britt i do not need to be told as i knew what was going to happen.the iranians lied through their teeth as usual.... |

the UK had to save face. one week of captivity, with no torture outside of the predictable head games that they should have been trained to withstand and these guys (and gal) were selling out their own country. Geez, what would they have admitted to if they were actually beaten. |

Don't you think that the only reason Britain and the US didn't threaten to go to war with Iran is because th sailors shouldn't have been where they were when they were captured? |
