If America wants to fight a war with Iran,can Iran sustain the military mights of the US?

As a retired military man I can tell you this question is NOT a "no brainer".

The US has made it a habit of fighting limited wars. In other words, we do all we can to make it fair. Well making it "fair" is what gets Americans killed. To win a war you must do one of two things. You must destroy the enemy's "WILL" or their "ABILITY" to wage war. When we engage in an armed conflict we pull punches in order to minimize collateral damage. This exposes our forces unnecessarily. The result is casualties and a lengthening of the conflict. As soon as we suffer some loses and are required to invest some time, the anti-war groups start yelling. The first scream from this crowd causes us to loose the "WILL" to wage war. It strengthens the enemy causing more casualties which prolongs the engagement. Now the vicious downward spiral has begun and eventually we loose.

The decision to go to war can be handled by amateurs, but war is for professionals, and should be left to them. If the amateurs decide to micro-manage the conflict the result is something like Korea or worse like Viet Nam.

So, the real question is not whether Iran can withstand the military might of the US. The question is, will the US go in with a "WILL" to win. And how long will it take before supporters turn around and start helping the enemy. Remember, There were only three or four votes against the President's request to use force. And that is a combined count of the House and Senate. The intelligence committees for both houses saw the same Intel reports the President did. Now listen to them!!!

IMO this country has lost it's will to survive. Until 95% plus of the population realize how badly we are threatened, this half stepping method of being fair will continue. And if it continues, the same results can be anticipated.

In short we no doubt have the "ABILITY" to project military force. Our problem is we lack the "WILL".

No, because the American people, when push comes to shove will answer the call all the men and many women will enter the service just like we did in WW2. We might be a sleeping giant, but once you awake us? We have far more technology and once the gloves come off, Iran won't stand a chance, We could incinerate them right now, just like we could No. Korea. But as strong as we are, we are also a compassionate nation.

America is spread thin militarily, and the leader and congress might have to take a serious look at the draft, although that option is disliked by many, hard choices.

First off, The US military is not thinned out. we have over a million man army including the reserves and we only have 130,000 in Iraq, you do the math, are we thinned out?

Iran has not chance against the US on the Battlefield. After our plains take the sky and gain Air Supremacy, will hit them at will from the Air and our Mechanized and Tank Battalion will move at east through Iran. I would predict that the iranian Military will be brought to 20% strength within 2 weeks.

Most people don't realize that Vietnam was fought totally differently from how iraq is being fought. the two are uncomparable. Our troops are trained better and most of our soldiers want to be in the Army unlike the VN era.

for those of you that think the draft is coming back, you need to study the recruiting stats. The military is meeting if not exceeding its goals for recruiting

no, the US, UK and perhaps Isreal and AS to lesser extents maybe even the french if they have the will go to war at a 100% different level then any other country in the world. the US can do it alone any where, any time, for as long as it takes. most of enemies and potential enemies will not be able to match the pace of the 24/7 all weather fighting. china has no idea of this either. the UK and US got to war on a different level, not just the tactival and operational level, but they can dictate the pace, the ability to within minutes turn off the lights, phones, tv, military communications and many forms of the air def and intel network, then to hit every airport, every key bridge within seconds, followed up but elite light units, not to mention an armored fist if needed---no one knows how to deal with it.

America can not fight a war on their own as Britain gets dragged into all their problems.We would be the stronger ones but we will never combat all the potential suicide bombers etc.There are too many nutters out there and we will just go round in circles trying to establish dominance.

Iran will be able to sustain and infact what iran will do is extract uranium and make nuclear weapon(missiles,bombs) in this war and bomb america from their own country n then USA will lose that wud b an embarresment for America and its people. So America should ask will (USA)they b able to sustain the military mights in this war

What do you mean by America? The government or the transnational companies manipulating it? Now that we live in the age of disinformation, maybe it won't make any difference to you. Until they find me, thousands of people will have learned that America is no more controlled by its national companies. Transnational companies are a great threat both for America and the world. A transnational company is one that feels no loyalty to any nation. They donâ€™t pay any taxes to any government and they are strong enough to overthrow governments all over the world. For the time being they are using Americans. They threat America by the fact that if they draw their capital and investments from America 25 % of its population will be jobless.

The fight and the tension between the members of the Senate is in fact a fight between the American and non-American capital owners. Right after the 9/11 the nationalistic or loyal American capital owners became a little bit stronger and passed a decree from the senate to the effect that the central government and the states are to buy their weapons from NATIONAL war industries... But at present non-American capital owners have become stronger enough to sip petroleum out of Iraq by using American ARMY. This is the horrible fact about American Politics and Bush is not loyal to America.

The only full war America can say it has ever won alone was the '1st Gulf War'. If you accept that Iraq now is GWB's unfinished business then they haven't even won that.
America would quickly take control of Iran, and with Iraq behind them unfinished, and no friends (America's allies would consider it insane), they would be forced to eventually withdraw from the middle east leaving a gaping wound which could effectively kill off any support America may still have.
Alone they would find it very difficult to survive in the long term.

If America iz really going to fight Iran, i think it will win but the war will be costful because iran seams to have the pottential to fight. And if Russia is going to collaborate with Iran then america is more likely to loose the war. not only that but also ennemity among European countries and America will be created hence increasing on the number of enemies America has I there for think that America should leave the WAR.
