If I join the army will I be poor for life ?

Hey there is no such thing as an American soldier that is poor.
Never has never will be.

The highest and most valuable thing someone can do is to be an American soldier. It is a question of value.

What do we value. There are some that value money.
There are some that value fame. There are some that value honor.

However being a soldier you can make awesome money. I know many in the military who have written books on their experience. There are some who have businesses also.

You have read of Majoy football players who have left their high paying careers to become a soldier. They would not do that if they didn't understand what is more valuable to them.

When you really think about it, people don't want money. They really don't. They want what the money can get them...goods, services...why? Well because it leads them to feel HAPPY.

So the end result is being HAPPY. There are of course millionaires that are unhappier than you and I. There are folks in the Army who are happier than you and I.

And vice versa.

Whatever we value will bring us happiness. I have never heard a soldier say "I regret being an American soldier."

Also the Armys purpose is to protect it's American citizens and to promote Democracy. Killing those who would come against our way of life is just one part of being a soldier.

Just existing as an American soldier has value as it represents the American way of life. If you have ever gone to another country you know how awesome America is.

America also has the most powerful army in the world. The weapons, the honor, the shock and awe. Man it doesn't get any better than that.

and people in the military are not poor, just like everyone else in life they make the choice whether to save money or blow it on junk. besides where else are you going to get free health/dental care?

well if you become a soldier and party and not save money or get a education like most soldiers do then yes you probably will be. But if you decide to use the educational benefits the army has, save money and progress in your military career then when you will out you will probably be pretty well set.

First of all, the Army isn't about "killing". If that's your mentality, don't even bother seeing the recruiter. The Army is about defending the nation, in all means (this includes humanitarian efforts). Second of all, the base pay for an E1 (lowest rank in the military) is sub-par. However, health insurance is covered, work clothes are provided, as well as 3 meals a day and a dorm room (which will be shared with by another troop). Additionally, the Army provides the opportunity to live in other countries without having to pay for going there. There is an annual pay raise for the first 4 years and a semi-annual after that, not including actually getting promoted (higher rank). Also, I suggest you watch the movie Jarhead to get a good idea of what military life is really like

What do you determine as poor? The military pays for your housing and cola if you live overseas. When you go to iraq/afghanistan you do not pay taxes while in a combat zone. You have access to college and the chance to live in Europe or Asia. If you are smart and save money and do 20 years, you will have a good pension and benefits at the age of 38, if you go in at 18. If you think killing is all the army does, you need to do some research. There are hundreds of jobs that you can bring into civilian life after the military. Do some research and do whats right for you. I have two bachelor degrees and am happier in the army than i was in the civilian world.

This is another situation people only know what they are told. I spent 23 years in the Air Force, have a house paid for, have 2 brand new Harley's(Road Kings), paid for, and do not work. I am 45 and have a pension for the rest of my life. So I guess it is a matter of what one considers poor. My 2 kids are also in Air Force, you make the call!!

If you are considering joining the military for financial gain,please choose another career path.The military of today wants highly motivated people who love their country and are willing to make sacrifices for the good of the people.
My time serving my country in the United States Navy (8 years) taught me the life skills I needed to become a successful industrialist.It also showed me what a small group of highly motivated and patriotic individuals can accomplish when the chips are down and the hounds are at the door.

I retired from the Army, and recently bought a $300,000 house. I wouldn't call that "poor".

Being in the Army won't make you poor. Not doing anything to improve yourself while you're IN the Army WILL, however, make you poor.

If you go in at 20 and retire after 20 years you have a good pension at age 40 and life time health care.

Look at the military pay scale and see for yourself. I know people with BA and Masters Degrees that dont make as much as many folks in the military.

Anyone who joins the military hoping to get rich is insane. But, I do think that when they go to war, they should get to rape and plunder the beaten country.

more than likey if you live in the u.s. you will we gave it to the mexicans no rights here for us just for illegals thats the only reason i havent signed up for the army or marines id love to but not for what our country is becoming iam not fighting for mexico or AMEXICA i want our old country back like it was 5 years ago
