Being as there is actually no draft, I wouldn't worry about it.
Also, there will probably never be a draft again, because whoever suggests it would be impeached. So, you can sit back on your sofa, watch your TV, and collect all the benefits. Meanwhile, people like me will kiss our two small children goodbye, hug our husbands for what could be the last time in our lives and march off to an unwinnable war so that lazy slobs like you can enjoy you shabby little lives. I'll live in my 6x6 room, endure 150 degree temperatures, roadside bombs and a world where everyone hates me, just so people like you can sit at home and type stupid questions into Yahoo. The real question you should be asking yourself is why you are such a shallow human being and how will you ever achieve anything in life with your attitude. And while you are at it, why don't you try to find some other country to take you so that you can be proud. I'd try France. They never give a damn about anyone except themselves either.

Aggie80
Well, currently, there is no draft, so you wouldn't be 'selected' at this point in time.

If you refuse, you could be arrested and may be shipped off to boot camp anyway.

If you can prove that you are a conscientious objector, you can apply for being excluded that way.

I can tell you aren't proud to be an American, you won't even capitalize it! So why are you still living here? If it is so bad, why haven't you left?

Leogirl0804
If Canada will take you, enjoy your new home. You will love the taxes too!

You are what makes America great. You add diversity by being stupid. Don't worry about skipping out on being "selected", the Army doesn't select people, people select the Army. In America we have a volunteer army. If you meant in case there was a draft could you get out of it? I would say just go down to the draft station and just speak to the draft station commander. I think it will take him all of about two seconds to see that the Army doesn't want you. Good luck in life brother. It's a lot harder when you're stupid.

Nothing for you to worry about at this time because there is no mandatory draft system in place, so maybe you had better get your self a passport and get out of the US if you do not want to get drafted if it does come to be. Better yet, since you are not proud to be an American, you better just migrate to different country and renounce you American citizenship, if in fact you are one. Be aware that once you go to a different country, do not ever mentioned that you were once an American. Or else, some anti-American factions may want to capture, torture, and kill you.

briang731/ bvincent
Well, the taliban are recruiting, but as long as there is no draft, there is little chance the army will seek you out!

sapito
there is a cadence....go to war or go to jail...............you would go to the second one and i would have more respect for a rat than for you ...........because the rat at least defends its off-springs from invaders and you ........you would be living under a new Regine rather than to figth for you own people...and if you are not proud to be and America move to some other country where they welcome cowards ...so you can appreciate this great nation..That is the only way you would appreciate how good you have it here....

J. W.
You sound incredibly nervous that you could get drafted and be forced to serve this country! There have been rumors of a draft in the near future. If you get drafted and refuse to go, it's called AWOL. AWOL means jail time for you, and you should worry about it. Weigh out your options if a draft comes , serving your country or hanging out in jail.

Do you mean if you were drafted?
If you refuse to register for the draft you can be fined and serve up to 5 years in prison.
If you refuse to serve after being drafted you can spend up to 7 years in federal prison.

And if you aren't proud to be an American, leave.
I'm sure you can get a job in the Loire Valley stomping on grapes or something.

daydoom
You will not be selected because we do not have the draft, however anyone who is too cowardly to fight for their country should move to France and get a job in their White Flag factory.

Why don't you find a country you are proud of and move there. I doubt that anyone here would miss you.

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.
Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.
The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.
My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.

The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know, Then the
sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.
My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.
Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.

A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Medic, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.
"What are you doing?" I asked without fear,
"Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!"

For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts..
To the window that danced with a warm fire's light
Then he sighed and he said "Its really all right,
I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night." "It's my duty to stand at the front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.
No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.
My Gramps died at 'Pearl on a day in December,"
Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers."
My dad stood his watch in the jungles of 'Nam',
And now it is my turn and so, here I am.
I've not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile.

Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red, white, and blue... an American flag.
I can live through the cold and the being alone,
Away from my family, my house and my home.
I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother..
Who stand at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall."

"So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright,
Your family is waiting and I'll be all right."
"But isn't there something I can do, at the least,
"Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son."
Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
"Just tell us you love us, and never forget.
To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.
For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."

There is no draft, so no worries. Think about it long and hard. I just retired after 20 plus years. It's not free money. You work long days, and don't always get weekends off. I worked one TDY in Bosnia for 90 plus days--no day off. X-mas-New Year-Easter. Then another one in Qatar- no day off. You learn a great skill and the benefits are super. Free medical and dental. 400,000 life insurance policy. 250 per month for food, and free housing. It's a GREAT way to get out of your tiny going no where town.

No chance of it buddy. The Army as well as all branches are strictly volunteer. Why are you not proud to be an American? There are a lot worse places to live!

Damien104
You should be extremely proud to be an American. I love my country to death, but hate my government with a passion. Still, should I be drafted, depending on who is running the show, I may or may not serve. If history is any indication, a short jail term and social isolation are the only penalties.

Mind you, should any retarded country attempt to invade, then I'll be leading my fellow citizens in an all out American insurgency.
