India have signed a contract to produce 5th generation aircraft with russia but now India wants the F-35 despite not being a partner in JSF? Does India plan to have two 5th generation aircraft or will they scrap the indo/russian project?

Much will depend on India.
So far, the Indian Air Force has not shown any signs of its interest towards the F-35 as it is not competing in MRCA because of it's unavailability before 2015.
But, Lockheed Martin has offered the F-35's as a side deal if the F-16 wins the MRCA competition. The deal is that Lockheed Martin will replace the F-16's to the F-35's when the F-16's service is finished (should be around 2040) . Not only that, F-35's which will be offered to India will be sold at the price of the F-16 today.
So, if even the IAF gets the F-35 by 2040, the FGFA (indo-Russian Project) shall not be affected...
Though , the chances of the F-35 entering the MRCA competition are from very slim to none.
Whereas , the Indian Navy has shown interest in the F-35's instead of the Super Hornets which were offered to them. Though , this deal will run parallel to the FGFA, as the FGFA doesnt have a naval version. |

Lot's of countries obtain aircraft they they origionally didn't help produce. If they sign a contract witht the US F-35 Supplier, then I don't see why they wouldn't be able to get any.
I also don't see how it would affect the Indo/Russian 5th Gen Projects. As long as both remain friendly twords the United States, then I don't see anything wrong with a country having more than 1 5th Generation fighter project. |
