If US lied its way to attack Iraq, what can UN or the international community do?

An investigation should be held and someone needs to be held responsible for basically invading for one reason, then switching it to a humanitarian issue after they get caught.

The UN is not an international legal authority that trumps the power of its member states. So, the US' invasion of Iraq isn't "illegal" because the US followed its own laws when Congress authorized force. Membership in the UN is strictly voluntary and representatives to the UN are just that - they're representatives of their own countries, not delegates in an international legislature of some kind. The US defines what's legal or illegal on its part, subject to treaties. Incidentally, read UN Resolution 1441. If the US lied its way into an attack, then you'd never know from the UN's own admissions about the Iraq situation. There's a difference between bad intelligence (which was internationally agreed upon and recognized) and lying.

The UN could make resolutions about the United States' "illegal war" until it's blue in the face, but the UN realizes that its resolutions are only as useful as their ability to enforce them. Guess who did all that enforcin'? Yeah, the United States. Unless member states are willing to take military action against the United States, then there's nothing the "international community" can do except try to persuade our government of its error or enter into talks.

UNO is a dumb organization and it can only work for earthquakes, floods , food and health but can't speak agaisnt the injustice done by superpowers.....this veto power system has spolied ! It can not do anything for world Peace but yes it can just shed some tears after the war and can send some force to that place for making the world believe that we are existing somewhere in the dark shadows !!

I think that current events in iraq have proved that it is a hot bed for insurgent terrorists. What more justification do we need?

we didn't lie our way to war with iraq. the man - even IF he weren't a true threat was doing everything within his power to make us perceive him as such. his little game just backfired on him is all. he was begging us to take him out and now, the idiot next door is following in his footsteps - go figure.

as to your last question, realistically, it should only be illegal to enter smaller, more capable countries.

No. Saddam was acting like that I have WMD. He can just allowed for the inspectors to come in. Also, he was still claiming Kuwait as Iraqi Territory. This is a violation of the cease fire of Desert Storm.

I guess they would punish US. America will probably pay for all the damages caused becuase of their lies. George W. Bush will probably be impeached. And, US will no longer stand as a powerful country.

The UN and or World can do nothing because 'Might makes Right'.The US is the pre-eminent firepower, financial power and diplomatic power. Only American citizens have the power to curb US imperialism. Last november at the polls, Americans (including me)showed their displeasure with the Iraq war.
