Its not volunteer as in a charity organization. Its "volunteer" vs being "conscripted." Another common term for it is "professional military" vs "conscripted military." People in the military choose it vs being forced to do it for a certain period. Places such as Turkey require a minimum time in the military for all males, that is a conscripted military. |
