If US soldiers were really volunteers, would they burn rubber getting out of the Military?

How can they be called volunteers if they are paid w/benefits?

Because you volunteer to enlist as opposed to being drafted....

Seriously, are you this naive?

They volunteer to sign up. You aren't forced to enlist in the U.S. Military

you volunteer to serve your country full-time. the government pays you for your courage and pays you to support yourself and your family because you are serving your country

cantsuspendme34
that is something you will never understand

They are volunteers because they are not forced to join the armed forces.

For many, it is a gateway job.

Its not volunteer as in a charity organization. Its "volunteer" vs being "conscripted." Another common term for it is "professional military" vs "conscripted military." People in the military choose it vs being forced to do it for a certain period. Places such as Turkey require a minimum time in the military for all males, that is a conscripted military.

Because they volunteered to sign up.

It goes like this, eh hem "If any man or woman out there would be willing to sign up and serve there country voluntarily, we will pay you and give you benefits."

A lot who signed up for the National Guard were thinking more of protecting the homeland, and natural disasters than 'preemptive war' in the middle east.

Dean M, that was very responsible of you.

They volunteer to sign up.

Would you really want to do the things that U.S. soldiers do for free? If they didn't get paid, how would they survive? Its not only VOLUNTEERING to serve your country, but its a career.
